A bunch of blooms that look like dried up wet toilet paper... WAHHHHHH With temps in the high 90's I'm surprised they are even alive. I better stop complaining. LOL
What do you get with high temps & high winds?
We don't have the heat here, but the winds are making crepe paper out of my blooms and the leaves are looking pretty shredded right now. My poor banana plants are very sad looking. Sorry you are having the heat too. It is actually chilly here today. It's only 70 right now.
I hear you Kristi - I'm wilting right along with my plants over here in CT also..what is this - day 10 of temps in the mid to upper nineties with about 88% humidity? yuk
It is supposed to break tomorrow and then temps should be more seasonable. We haven't had the winds though - are you getting thunderstorms?
Diane
What we had last week is probably blowing your way. Heavy rains, hail , winds, and of course we had to watch for tornado's, don't know if you get them up there. We are finally starting to dry out. I think all together we got over 6 inches of rain.
Linda
Oh so sad, Kristi! Your yard was breathless in its beauty. The good news is it will get better.
I don't mind the heat, really I don't. I just wish the plants didn't too. :) So you have wind Shirley? I had that last spring and it was harder on the plants then any high temps. I hope they are over quickly. Diane no storms- I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a break in the weather for you.
I SO hope your wrong Linda. I don't need any hail. Glad to hear your drying up.
Yuck! Sorry Kristi.. its bad enough when its just either wind OR heat.. both is not right!!
It's just the brug blooms that can't take the heat with the wind kell. They will bloom again so it's okay :)
I shouldn't be complaining.
We will supposedly hit 91 today and just got a whopping storm. I thought one of the kids and I were gonna blow off the porch! We got 1.5" of rain in about ten minutes. I couldn't tell where the pond stopped and the garden started. UH OH! My brugs just got a good cleaning. I don't need to worry about picking up the spent flowers (or collecting seed pods). LOL
We just had storm that came through Cincinnati, 34 mph winds, branches down from trees that were hit by the ice storm in January. Absolutely not one drop of rain! Sigh...........
Ain't this fun Ktisti? I know how you feel, really hot with high humidity here.
You didn't get the rain?? That stinks! I can't say we really are dying for the rain but I am sure we will be before too long. I look outside every day and pray for my swimming pool and greenhouse to not be taken out by a tree. :)
I hope the weather we just had isn't going your way. I got so tired of moving plants and covering up the ones that are planted. I was almost wiped out the week-end before from the hail that came and I didn't know it was coming to visit. It stayed long enough to wear out it's welcome. Every time the weather man would even say the word hail, I didn't care if it was predicted for us or not I went out and started covering everything up. I'm was glad my DH didn't have a fishing tournament last week-end cause he helped me move plants back and forth all the time.
I am hoping all you get is the rain and not the hard gushing rain either, the slow soaking rain.
Linda
No Michelle, we missed the rain again! Had 1" in whole month of May, have been crying for rain, so.....received less that 1/2" Sunday night. Thankful for small favors tho'.
Sorry your blooms are getting ruined Kristi. I wish I could send some of this rain to the dry places.
We are waterlogged here. It's been raining for days with thunder and lightning storms.
Yesterday we were whining because it was 88 degrees and very humid. Today it is raining again but never went above 60.
Strange weather.
We are having the hot temps also, and Tornadoe type wind and rain, in fact we had Tornadoe alert on Sunday, isn't it strange how we worry about our plants lol.
I can't believe I did it, but around 4 PM, I turned the furnace on to take the chill out of the house. Since then, the sun has come out a little and it has warmed up to 75 outside, now.
LOL Shirley. After sweating for more than a week with the heat and humidity my furnace also went on tonight. It's 54 degrees outside now and going down into the 40's tonight.
WHAT IS WITH THIS WEATHER?????
I think Mother Nature is giving us a taste of what the other parts of the country contend with constantly, to make us appreciate what we normally have.
Good Luck all.
Judy
Been raining here with high temps in the mid-60's. My poor brugs are still putting on new growth but a couple have some yellowed leaves. I moved some under the trees so they wouldn't get rained on so much. I've had to treat some of my other perennials for powdery mildew with all of the moisture.
I'm sad to say we have thunderstorms in the forecast for Fri. and Sat. I wonder what happen with the 7 days of nice weather.? We have only had 4 days.
Actually Brugs LOVE the high temps--just need LOTS of water EVERY day and sounds like they need protection from wind and heavy rain. I know this may sound crazy to some but why not think up a way to protect them--create an umbrella or something big enough to protect them?? These plants are worth a little extra expense and effort!! The weather HAS been a pain this year!! The heavy thunderstorms we had a few weeks ago caused me to lose a few branches from one of my Brugs--knocked them to the ground and made mush of them!! waaaaa So I understand your frustration. Also this year for us in the South the hot weather was 2 MONTHS late!! So everything that normally would have been producing flowers/fruit for a month or more already are JUST getting started!! Talk about frustration!!! Nothing germinated from seed until the END of May!! Normally the plants started from seed in April are flowering and even fruiting by the end of May!! WOW!!
Bonnie
Bonnie -
You are so right about everything being late this year - probably all over the country - but definitely here in the Northeast as well. The Forsynthias bloomed 3 wks late; tulips - 4 weeks late; I spent all of April with the heater on in my little greenhouse trying to keep my seedlings alive until warm weather started. My Father in law told me "don't worry - you will make it up in a late fall season"..but I disagree with him because in the fall the days begin to get shorter and the plants start shutting down no matter how warm it is. sigh. We are fortunate if anything does well this year with this totally weird weather.
I have been loving this month, despite the unseasonably HOT, sticky weather for the last 2 weeks because my plants are now, finally growing like crazy.

Bonnie, I'm in zone 8a too and wonder if you winter yours outside and, if so, about when do they come up and then get buds?? I've had buds for more than a month on the ones wintered outside and I'm ready for at least one of them to bloom!!!
