Ear ID please?

I bought a few of these ears this year but they were unmarked. Can anyone help me out with a name? Thanks.

Are you sure that's an ear? It looks sort of like an anthurium too. It is gorgeous what ever it is.

Liz,
it's an alocasia possibly a hybrid.same type as amazonica...needs heat and humidity. :-)

Thanks Kyle, we have had a lousy last couple of weeks of weather so just about the only things left in the gh are the alocasias. I thought it might be an alo because I have kept your information about the distance of the stem meeting the leaf. That and it is a thicker leaf like an alo. But I have googled and can't find a pic like it.
Ely, my batteries are dead so will take a pic as soon as they are charged. I have 4 of them and they were in 1/2 gallon pots so not that large. They are about 30 inches tall, the leaves are 18in. long by 12in. at the widest point. Not knowing who they are I don't know if this is as big as they get.

Thats a good looking Alocasia. Reminds me of the african mask with the veins but is so much larger, almost like an ear. Make lots of pups and offer em for trades. lol I will be watching.

lol, slgrowers, hard to trade a plant that I don't know the name of.

want me to prove you wrong? lol

lol, slgrowers, since I joined Daves many moons ago I have become fixated on the botanical names of my plants. It makes it all the more troublesome after the fact. This one I couldn't pass by though. I bought 2, came home and looked at them and went back the next day to buy the other two. I cleaned them out of whatever this is.

I am searching for it now. I am sure someone will be able to identify it. It could be a hybrid, but that would be more likely if you purchased it at a nursery or botanical gardens sale. If this came from a large chain home store of some sort I would have to guess we can find a name for it. lol

Hi Liz nice find. Your mystery alocasia looks like A. loweii var. 'Argentea'. And if I guessed the name correctly it should reach about 5-6 feet tall. You just never know what you will find at the nursery. My best find this year was 2, 5 gallon pots of black bamboo for $40 each at a nursery that doesn't carry tropicals. I have seen the same bamboo selling for more than $150 at other nurseries. Your new ears look pretty good but I like your view even better.

Thanks Grant mine looks a lot like this except the points of the leaves in the pic look a bit more pronounced. Will that come with age?
