This is sad...

Creamsickle's first flush lol...How funky are these monkeys? What's wrong with her????? Poor thang! Maybe a genetic defect???

Julie at least you are lucky enough to get color. Mine bloomed white and then turned brown last year every flush, never got any orange color

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

well lol at first I had the one bloom in the middle and thought hmmm ok, maybe this is just the first bloom ever and the other two will be fine...then a day later I got some color...a hint of color...then the other two decided to come out and they're all curvy and wavy??? I was really disappointed as I had all the neighbors just waiting along with me to see what it was going to look like having two skirts LOL...I sure do hope this isn't what it will do all summer though lol...I guess I should be thankful they even bloomed!!!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

Julie it may be all the dang rain we have had down here lately.

shoot at least you have a bloom mine poor three look so drowned.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

You may be right Marie lol...here I was wishing for rain cos' it was so dry, then the bottem dropped out! For days, and days and days lol...I'm finding all this rain is messing my tomatoes up too Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I'm sorry about your creamsickle, is it in the ground or a pot? If it's the pot, I'd move it up to the porch or something. As a matter of fact, I did do that cos' of the rain. Mine is residing in a pot. Maybe it would do much better in the ground hmmmmm.

Maybe it's the steam heat with the rains - it's really humid here too!

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

I agree Sherry, tis' true...hence, ergo, moving it up on the porch to avoid not only rain but the darned steam too! It's so humid here and wet it's not only messing with brugs but me too! Found out I have allergies at my ripe age of 46!

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Mine was ugly last year too, like Donna's, so it got composted.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Awwwwwww it was composted?? So there could be some kind of defect here and no hope for it? This is sadder than I thought :-(

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Julie it does well for the people in the cooler less humid regions

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

That's what I figured, seems like all the ones I'm nutz for like cooler, less humidity. Oh, well. With all of you having similar problems, I'm crossing it off my list...

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Ahhhhhhhh well darn, if I'd known that I wouldn't have bought it :-O

Maybe I'll wait till the cooler time of year before making any rash decisions. Last year, I had more flushes and prettier flushes to boot in the Fall months. So you're probably right!

Thanks Donna

Deltona, FL(Zone 9a)

Don't give up on it...I had messy blooms for a few flushes also...When the weather evened out last year the blooms became lovely..Than the hurricanes hit and broke her...Now she is growing again and the first blooms were to close to the ground and to much water they were wrinkled, the second blooms opened and were lovely...hahaha than the rains hit for 5 straight days so I guess the buds on her now will be wrinkled again....she doesn't like to be to wet for to long.

Lantana, FL(Zone 10a)

Don't feel bad, you're not the only one with sad looking blooms! My double white started blooming a few weeks ago and I have as yet to see one bloom. We've had unseasonable, unreasonable rain for weeks and they've all been turning brown before they open. Yesterday alone I cut off 13, and I can understand how heartbreaking it is to see the plant trying so hard but just not making it. I plan on giving it some time. It would be so beautiful, though, if it wasn't for the sad, funky blooms....I can sympathize. Hang in there!

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Cinnabor and Liila :-)

I do believe mine will stay on the porch again today. There has been so much rain, I can see how it could take it's toll on them. She shall stay on the porch and get filtered light and alittle pampering by her brug mommie. Since you all both say that you've had trouble with creamsickle doing the same thing as mine with too much rain, that only tells me that it's not good for her and a lesson learned that I didn't know! This place is wonderful isn't it? You can compare notes with other's and learn something new everyday!

I'll keep her around, though...as she is just a young'un lol...and I'll wait to see her perform all seasons. My moma always said don't judge something or somewhere until you've seen it through all seasons and then you'll know if you'll be happy with it. Well LOL....something like that!!! I really like this one and think moving her out of the rain is going to help. If she were in the ground maybe it wouldn't be as bad but she's in a pot.

Thanks ya'll!

How can you call any bloom ugly, it's just different, and it is a BLOOM> *LOL*

Doris

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I've always been happy with my creamsickle blooms
They've always been large, blooms white, turns orange, excellent seeds

Maybe it doesent like the weather in certian areas

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

lol Doris, who said 'ugly'....let's go get em'! hehehe

She is sad, you can see the sadness eluminating from it's little warped, wavey, brown-tinged petals, BUT, she is not 'ugly'....she will prevail though!!!! You just watch, in the cooler months, she is gonna be GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-EAT!!!!

CC this season has been unusually wet and very very humid, so here's hoping for cooler weather for 'Creamsickle' soon!

Hugs

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

but does she smell good?
If she's got great fragrance I'd let her hang around in back of some showgirls. :)

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh YESSSSSsss, that she does Mr. Blaine. :-) I'd think hangin' out with the showgirls would do her a world of good... :-))))) ROFLmBO!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Hmmm. I have much earlier buds than I had last year, and those on Susanne and my unknown tree, both in pots, turned brown, I wonder if it was too much rain or the pots dried out? The blooms on the tree were wonderful, even tho the pod was brown, verdict still out on the Susanne blooms. I really have watering problems with the ones in pots, I want to get them all in the ground...I would love to have some inexpensive (of course) gages to tell if a pot needs watering - do they make anything like that??

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yes, Sherry. Use underplantings. I use sun coleus and New Guinea Impatiens. Monika is the one that told me she uses the Impatiens to let her know when the brugs need water. The coleus work the same way. As soon as they start to wilt, it is watering time. They both come back from wilted stage very easy.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Brugie! After an awful experience with underplantings last year, I swore off, but you have convinced me it might be worth another try. I'm tolerating my New Guinea Impatiens, they are big, and when they want water they lay on the ground, so I'll try coleus, again. As a mater of fact, I might just used small ones in the pots, simply for a watering gage. Coleus and I get along nicely, the sun tolerant ones, but those NG impatiens are not for me, I love the shady bed impatiens...I'm really not a gardener - until brugs, I went out and bought a bazillion impatiens for the shade, and periwinkles for the sun and begonia and caladium for the pots, with ferns here and there. That's not real gardening, lol, but it worked for me, made me happy for about 40 years...

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

I've seen posts with coleus underplantings and it was gorgeous! What a great idea, Maybe I'll try that myself. I really do need to get Monika's book! The woman knows her stuff!

I have flowering kale and cabbage growing under my biggest brug. They seem to be working well together.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

I bet it's pretty too !!!

You guys are so creative.., and such great ideas~!

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

I've planted Big Leaf Basil, which we use a lot, in some of mine. I've used them for years with my Hibiscus Trees to know when to water but finally threw in the towel because they were such insect magnets.... then I was foolish enough to start growing Brugs. Compared to Brugs, Hibiscus Trees are extremely easy. lol lol lol

Judy

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

if everyone would work on bringing birds to your yard(keeping filled feeders) you would have very little insect damage

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Donna, it is too heartbreaking here to entice the birdies, the cats, meow cats, stalk them and badger them all the time, they seldom get one, but they give it a good go...
