my new bog works....:)

I built this in a natural drain area..with the idea that rain water would collect and then slowly seep out, the liner is two pieces of black plastic (overlapped but not sealed). Its sure is working this morning :)

That's pretty. Do you mean this area was often wet so you put a liner in it? I don't know what a natural drain area is.

No...this is not a normally wet area. You can see the "bank" behind the bog, when it rains - water naturally flows down this way across my yard, so I dug out some (about 12"-18"" and built a little berm in the front to slow and hold water.

Then I put some black plastic (2 pieces overlain - I didnt have one piece big enough) and replace the soil.

Now the run off water gets detained in this area long enough to soak in, by the afternoon..it is NOT standing water..just really wet !

Oh, that's a neat idea. The water stays in the liner long enough to soak the area instead of just running off the top. I'm going to have to remember this one.

Exactly,,because the liner is actually 2 pieces of plastic somewhat overlapped...it will never hold water and give a place for mosquitos but it slows things down enough for the soil to become totally saturated...it is an experiment.
