Kaleem, those are great! They will look really neat there. They look like perfect pots -- not too deep or wide. Clay is great because it breathes so nicely. You've got holes in the bottom; right?

No holes in the bottom. I will try with drill machine. Is it okay?

Oh, dear. I'm not sure if you can use a drill on a clay pot. I don't know if it the drill will cause the pot to break or not. Kaleem, let's wait and see if someone knows if you can drill a hole in a clay pot. I've only drilled holes in plastic pots so I don't know, I'm afraid. If you can't drill a hole, you will have to be sure to water very sparingly.

I heard that if you use masking tape on both sides of where the hole will be, and don't use too much pressure when guiding the drill, it will keep the pot from cracking. But I never tested this theory, so please wait til someone else can give you more informed advice.

You can drill glazed, unglazed and terra cotta pots by using a masonary bit and an electric drill. For unglazed pots, I generally soak them for a day or so in a tub of water. It takes only a couple of minutes to dril 3-5 holes in the bottom. Just invert the pot and drill away with a bit of care until you get the hang of it.

You can also try making a small dam of clay around where you will drill, and fill the dam with oil. Keeps the drill bit and pot from overheating (which adds to fractures).

Kaleem, try whatever technique you choose on a broken shard of terra cotta first.

I did ... I did.... I did...
I filled the pots with water and then made holes with electric drill and with in seconds there are.
Thank you every one for the tips.

Drilling glass is tricky because of all the stress inherent in forming the glass.

Google drilling glass
or check this out

I saw it on a craft show
they took one of those storage tubs
put enough water to cover the glass
and there was something under the glass
styrafoam or something as a cussion
They drilled SLOW
and it worked
I would practice on something first

They were making a lamp out of a beautiful glass vase
and needed a hole on the lower side for the cord

Your link is fantastic and this will help me in making holes at bottom of my glass Jugs. Thank you so much.

You guys are great. It is so nice to have such wonderful people here who are interested in lending a helping hand:-)

Glad it worked out, Kaleem! Now I know too for when I need to drill a hole in a ceramic or glass pot, and it is only a matter of time before I will need to!
