I am new to gardening.
I planted some rose mallow hibiscus (perennial) plants but I'm confused about how to care for them once the weather turns cold. Am I supposed to cut the stems down to ground level when it has finished flowering or do I simply leave the plant as is?
Need HELP. What to do at the end of the season?
I just leave mine for the winter. They are slow to emerge in the spring (usually about June 1 for me) and the old stalks help me remember where they are so I don't dig them out or something. In the spring I usually cut the dry stalks down to just above ground level and the new growth comes up around them. I am on my fourth year with them and they are doing great.
I have planted about 12 hardy hibiscus myself this year. I had two that I had gotton off EBay last fall and planted. They are coming up very nicely. I am hoping for a glorious garden of hibiscus when they all start to bloom.
Thanks for the help sylvi74, I had wondered about the same question that CRodrig970 had asked. I know the ones I planted last fall had been cut down to within 6 inches.
Good luck CRodrig970 with your new rose mallow Hibiscus.
