Canada Swallowtail

Photographed this one is a local park this morning. It is our largest Newfoundland butterfly.

Gorgeous pic!

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but why are all (???) of these lovely swallowtails all yellow and black with some kind of blue markings towards the base of their wings? Here's one (Papilio machaon syriacus) we have here in Israel:

I think that's the same one as our Tiger Swallowtail. ? Julie, that Old World Swallowtail is just beautiful! Most of the Papilio species that I see are black and yellow, some black and blues.

Amazing Julie how similar the two species are to each other...I guess they all had a common ancestor at one point and the winds have blown them to all corners of the world.
