I THINK this is H. aff. finlaysonii. I have 3 different hoyas bought as finlaysonii and I am not sure that any of them are the real thing. I like the bloom and the leaves anyway!
Bloom of the day
Oh Wow Mel, That one is a beauty, what ever its name is!!
Bloom and leaves are both lovely.
It is gorgeous Mel! Ü I hope someone will identify it for you/us.
Are the flowers completely open? All of my H. finlaysonii and aff. finlaysonii (as well as MM's crosses with H. incrassata) have flowers with recurved or reflexed corollas...? Lovely bloom!
Mel that is a beautiful bloom! As I am on a search for a new camera and that's a good photo, what kind of camera do you have?
Thanks all for your kind words.
Carol, the bloom just opened this morning and only last one day so I was in a hurry to get a shot. I will watch for a change in the corollas.
Susan, I have a Fujifilm S 3000. My DH bought if for my last Birthday. It was the only camera for the price that had a macro setting. That was my only requirement and Paul had a heck of a time even finding a camera in our price range that had this feature. It can also be set manually. The only thing I do not like about it is that it eats batteries while not in use.
Very nice, too bad they don't last long.
Beautiful Mel, I am waiting for mine to bloom right now.
Oh my that's so pretty. Looks like a bunch of shooting stars!
Good camera work. You have to be on your toes to catch that one. I have acouple of them with leaves that look like that, so I am hoping the bloom will also be so lovely. Did it have a smell?
Marcy
Thanks my friends!
Marcy, it had a slight fragrance in the morning. It has been really hot here and that may have made a difference.
Mel I'm with you on this one, it's beautiful!!
Blessings,
Awanda
Mel...I think that bloom is H. cv. Jennifer....a cv. with H. finlaysonii (or the one running around we now call H. aff. finlaysonii) X H. incrassata. It IS a gorgeous flower...and i like the leaves even more!!!
Carol
Awanda was kind enough to share H cv. Jennifer with me. The leaves have stronger veination than this plant. Carol, do you happen to have a bloom picture of the real H. finlaysonii?
The bloom ended up lasting for 3 days! I have read that both H. finlaysonii and H. incrassata blooms last for only one day. By nightfall each day, the bloom would look spent and by morning it would revive and look like it did the first morning it opened. I can't help but wonder if it could be H. finlaysonii crossed with something other than H. incrassata.
Hey Mel. I don't have a picture of the true H. finlaysonii bloom...but I know that from the same grex that cv. Jennifer came from, MM sent out cuttings of many others. I have 4 different plants from that same cross and they are all slightly different in the leaves (darker, lighter, more or less ovate, different apexes) and the blooms are basically the same. It is understandable that confusion reigns, as they are all passed around as H. finlaysonii because everyone wants to drop the loooooong name required for an unidentified hybrid.
Carol
Mel...one more thought. As soon as I can get DH to do it, there are a lot of blooms he hasn't put in the Photo Compendium. I see there are none from the H. finlaysonii group...which I will try to get up soonest.

You can use the comparison feature to put your flower up there and compare it to others on the compendium. Maybe that will help.
Carol
That sure does explain the confusion that surrounds H. finlaysonii. I have at least 4 different plants I have collected under this name. Thanks for the link. It will be interesting to compare the blooms.
The plant that I do have as H. finlaysonii (the REAL one, ID'd by Ms. Burton) shows a leaf that is not clearly veined, sort of muddy green and of a pillowy nature like H. mitrata. I am sure they are many many many clones of the REAL one.
