planting - soil amendment?

El Cerrito, CA(Zone 9b)

I have a brugmansia suaveolens Yellow-Gold. I live in the east bay of San Francisco (near Happenstance for those who are familiar with her climate). The brug can stay in the ground year-round here. Does anyone have a suggestion regarding soil amendment? I was thinking I would just mix in some fir mulch with the existing soil (which is somewhat clayish).
I read the thread below titled "Monika's book regarding soil" but I still feel a bit confused.

Thank you kindly!

It would probably be best if someone from your area, like Kell or Candy, would answer your question. They know what is available out there to use. Good luck with your brug.

Thanks Brugie. You are very wise -- Candy already answered the question on another thread! I planted it yesterday. Mixed about 1/3 potting soil, 1/3 fir mulch, 1/3 original soil (minus the "boulders" that come with our clay soil). So far, so good.
