Bears breeches.
Couple of pics from my shade garden.
lisa how how have you had that ligularia? I have one and love it. seems to be growing well in the shade. I'm just wondering if it will "fill up".
I bought mine in the spring, so I dont know how quickly it will fill things up.
God sure has a sense of humor....lookie there....put a daisy on a violet...LOL
Hap
What is the variagated plant next to your ligularia? Your Acanthus is wonderful..Mine NEVER blooms..but I have the spiny kind. Is yours the mollis?
I'm SO jealous that your acantuhs bloomed. I've had mine going on five years now and it just looks like a big thistle! One more season and it's out of here.... :) No mercy in my plant land.
I think it is acanthus mollis. when I bought it, it was labeled bears breeches only. The variegated plant next to the lingularis is variegated cast iron.
Rylaff I have the Mollis about two years now ...it is Bears Britches ...didnt realize it was a shade plant until a few months ago ...the leaves are all yellow out there. I want to move it and the Gunnera. But I dont know if its a good time. How long did it take yours to bloom?
btw Rylaff...you never did go back to the Camera thread. ;)
I bought mine as a small plant and it bloomed a month later. Mine is in mostly shade and is happy happy happy. It will probably be dead dead dead after today. Cat. 4 hurricane heading this way. I can only hope that it will land far enough west that we wont get the worst of it.
Sometimes I forget to watch threads. Which one was it?
Rylaff where is 'Niceville" I never heard of it before. I was born and raised in Miami..granted its been almost twenty five years since I actually lived there and they got all these new towns in florida since then. ...just had to ask. lol
It was the Sony thread...you were helping me with the Micro imaging??????
Sylvia:)
Niceville is east of Pensacola up in Northwest Florida. Very close to Destin. Its a tad bit windy here right now (understatement.)
hmmm...not far from my Dad's place of birth Lake City, I think.
Sylvia
rylaff....just checking in, how did you - and your garden - fare in the storm??? I read the above references to windy, and cat 4 storm coming, and wanted to know you made out OK???
Let us know, and what a season you all are already having...my thoughts turn to your area often.....
Jamie
Yes ...I would like to know how you made out too...hope everything is ok.
Sylvia
Not too badly. Lost a tree. The garden is a mess, but not as bad as with Ivan. Slowly cleaning up. It is too hot to do much at a time.
Well good...so the Bears Britches made lt okay? lol
Yea, they were fine. Protected by the house.
Neat pictures of plants we won't find hear in Canada.

The Bears Britches is beautiful. Mine tried to bloom this year, but got so far and quit. I am about to move it to a area with total shade.
I am moving mine too Picabo...its growing rapidly, but the sun is killing the leaves as fast it grows. I had mine in the ground for two or three years..I hate that in moving it to another location, it will take another three years to mature ... let alone flower. :( Oh well a gardener got to do... what a gardener got to do.[sigh]
Sylvia
I have had acanthus spinosissimus for years and it has bloomed once. It is the worst plant I have..sharp leaves that prick you to death..I have been wanting a mollis..yours is beautiful. I know they are heavy feeders. And just try and get rid of it..the roots will be there forever.
