I would so love to find Dahlia "Moonfire" somewhere!

Aurora, TX(Zone 8a)

It's the beautiful companion plant to cannas, and I can't find it anywhere here in the states! It seems to be readily available in the UK, but that doesn't much help me! lol

Anyone know of a source???

Many Thanks,
MKJ

Mkjones,
Post this on the Dahlia Forum. Maybe someone there has it to send you.

Oooh, great idea--I can't keep up w/all of the forums.......didn't know there's a dahlia one too??! Great!

Thanks, Carol!

Kathleen,
I just looked up online to see what it looked like.
Very interesting. If you find it, maybe we can trade later, hint.
I love dahlias, so....

Carol, doss over in the dahlia forum just posted that the season is over, but he/she has looked for it too (w/o luck). Suggested that we wait 'til next season and watch! Also, I noted to doss that I have an elderly aunt in London, and may ask her to keep an eye out for it. Could get her to mail some dormant tubers to us??

I've asked doss to "co-op" w/me on finding some, and I'm inserting you in there with us!
=) Kathleen

p.s. "Moonfire" is GORGEOUS next to the foliage of the cannas.......and that bloom........ahh.......

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Kathleen,
You are so kind! Thanks, we can all be on the lookout for it. I love to try them all, lol!
But...
Doss says the season is over?
Well, here my first real dahlia is opening up for the year. I am looking forward to the show all summer long!

Carol

Kathleen, Do you grow Dahlia's from seed? I have never had a dahlia seed not germinate. They are one of the seeds I love to start, because I get instant gratification! ha ha ha LOL
If you're interested in seeds.. I have a PRIVATE "007" Stash of Dahlia seeds.
Shhhhh don't tell anyone...email me if interesed.

Hi MKJ: don't have moonfire but I do have a bunch of others I'd like to get rid of. These darn tubers and plants are like pets....you get attached to them and can't just throw them away. Have to find good homes for all of them! I just posted a thread listing them a bunch of dahlia tubers that need a good home. Maybe you will see something you like.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I bought 'Moonfire' in a co-op that langbr did with Lobaugh's Dahlias. Here is a link to their website: http://www.lobaughsdahlias.com/catalog.htm

I think Doss (Dorothy) is right though, the season is pretty much over now......maybe next year....or when/if mine multiply. ;-)

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, Mendy, guess you will be saving me a 'Moonfire!" Lol.
Tripmaster, will go see what you have for tubers. I am a sucker!
Kim, what is so "special" about your seeds? Are they the border/bedding type?
Carol

Aurora, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, thus far I haven't really dallied with dahlias at all..........I just saw them in Ian Cooke's book, The Gardener's Guide to Growing Cannas, as an accompanying plant--gorgeous! 'Moonfire''s foliage and bloom are just outstanding in his photos next to the canna.

I went to the dahlia site--sorry I missed that coop!--but didn't see 'Moonfire' listed. I'll bookmark it for the Nov. season and ask Mr. Lobaugh to sell some to me then!!

The seeds are that easy, Kim? If they're as easy as the morning glories, then I just may be able to pull it off! lol I have a huge lot of seeds that a Burpee rep gave me, so I'll email you tomorrow about your "007" stash......sounds nifty! =)

LOL LOL! Carol, I was just joking. Nothing extremely special. I have a habit of stashing Dahlia seeds. Because they are so easy to grow from seed and will bloom the first year too. I have some named ones and ones I've seen that were absolutely stunning. So I stashed them..LOL
Interested?

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Sure, of course I am interested!
I have been thinking about you. You have said before that you like dainty flowers. I have this wildflower, 'Ragged Robin', 'Lychnis flos-cuculi', that I have harvested a lot of seed from this past month. I will post a picture of it. It is the first thing that pretty much blooms in the late winter/early spring and I really like it. It has tons of seeds but don't seem to have a problem with it reseeding all over. It seems to just stay in its area for some reason and I like that.
So are you interested in that?

Ohhhh It's one of my favorite flowers. I have many. But I can still let you know what I have. I'll send you a list of my Dahlia seeds. When I racke them all up after dinner...LOL

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Geez, I thought it was a Northwest thing here.
Darn! Was hoping I had something you didn't.
Hum, will look around then.
How about gazania plants? I love them. See the picture. They come in yellow, orange, or rose pink. They just shine up with the sunshine. They are perennial (since I mulch them good) for me here but mostly annuals elsewhere.

I'm going to go pull out the Dahlia file...and see what I have. I don't have Gazania plants but I do have seeds...
