This morning I noticed what appear to be two types of new growth on my Epi. Some seem clearly to be new stems. Others look more like flower buds to me. Or is this just wishful thinking? Please tell me what you think.
This first pic looks like a new stem to me.
So maybe my girl isn't finished afterall?
Great closeups, and I'm going to be watching the replies with care. (I had wishful thinking the other day...I've never seen a bud starting so I don't know what to watch for, lol.) Hoping some of yours are buds!
Morning Julie -
I'd go along with you guesses, although they are pretty hard for my near sighted eyes to see! Let's hope you get some more flowers, wouldn't that be a gift!
Thanks Desert_Dew, I hope you get some blooms too! :-)
Candy, I'll definitely be keeping you all updated on how these progress. I'm going to go right ahead and credit you with any new buds I might get as I kept feeding my Epi fish emulsion even after I figured it was finished blooming (just in case ;-).

Julie, I think they are both flower buds. New growth is much more flat. Congratulations! I'm going to go take a picture of my buds now to compare.
Well, we'll certainly see within a few days :-). I hope YOU'RE right and I'm wrong Clare :-). But I won't get too excited just yet. Ha! Who am I fooling? ;-)
-Julie
Julie, you can see up close better than I can. I noticed that the new growth is distinctly flat where as the buds are more round. I hope you are getting more flowers!
On mine they all start out round...that's the trouble with figuring these all out. Some still look like they could turn into flowers, but already today I could clearly see that a lot of them were new growth. A few more days and we'll know for sure on all of them LOL

All fingers and toes are crossed for you, Babe!
:-) uncross those legs....you'll get vericose veins (or is that an old wive's tale?)
LOL! I've never heard that! I can't really cross my toes anyway:-)
You can't cross your toes? I can cross my big toe over my 'index' toe....does that count? ROTFL
Well, the jury is out and the verdict is:
they are all growth buds! *pthththt*
But WOW what a lot of growth this little gal is putting on! She started out with 5 stems when I got her in the fall (whenever that was exactly I can't remember anymore). And now she's got 5 more stems that are at least a foot long....plus 13 (yes THIRTEEN) baby stems that are all a centimeter long +/- a few millimeters. :-) She's gonna be one many armed octupus next blooming season....all the more arms to create blooms with! :-)
-Julie
Julie, I'm sorry that they weren't buds after all, but I am glad that you have so much new growth. That new growth may give you flowers later this year! Grow, baby, grow!
Julie, you will have fireworks in a few months from all those new pads.
I saw a web site recently that said epis only bloom once from each little crevice -- anyone know if that is true?
Dunno about that kaperc. I hope someone else can answer though as it's an interesting question.
I have yet another funny little suspect....this one I'm more sure is a flower bud, but then I'm always willing to be wrong about these guesses of mine ROTFL. The funniest part of it (if it's really a flower bud) is that it's growing from a 1 1/2 inch tip that I snapped off about 2 months ago and stuck in the dirt. I'll keep you posted on whether this turns out to be a flower bud or just new growth.

Now that will be interesting, Julie.
I'll try to find that web site again and post the link.
