This was Isobele two hours ago growing from a Y just above the ground
TROUBLE AGAIN
The colors are from the sun shinning down after the rain, I was so hoping this one would keep going, the part broken off I have in a jug of water with some MG, it had Yd again, any advice as to how to keep it alive would be appreciated.
Doris
You have my sympathy. Darn varmints!
I have a mystery varmint that has knocked over what little garden art I have, and broken smaller plants, but never has devastated something as far along as your Brug. Hope you can save it.
Mary
OH, gosh...they are pesky devils! Can you save them?
I would stake the one in the ground and root the broken piece in some water to make a new plant.
Oh Doris. You keep getting frustrated in your attempt to grow these. All I can think is you are going to have such flowers later on after all you have been thru.
All is not lost. So I can't tell by the picture, one stalk is off? Even if broken at the ground, it will put up shoots again. Just wait. It will put out a few too so you will have a multi- stalked brug with lots of flowers.
On the broken piece, take off all the leaves except the the little ones on top. Take a gallon can or a 5 gallon can if your brug piece is over 2 1/2 ft. Fill with fast draining dirt. Stick the brug piece in way down. Maybe a ft under the soil so you grow a strong root system. Also you want nodes underground, they put out good roots. And also they will sucker from these even from underground.
Then take this pot and put in total shade. If it is very hot, take it inside, just keep out of direct sun. Bright light is fine inside. . DO NOT WATER IT AGAIN until it is on the dry side. It may take a while to dry out. That is OK. Even if the stem wilts, do not water if the soil is wet. If it wilts badly, I bag it in a big clear damp plastic bag. But then keep it inside so it does not steam cook in the heat.
In 3 to 4 weeks it will start to put out new growth.
I AM SO SORRY DORIS!! You are such a trouper here. I am so rooting for you!
Thanks for your help again kell, the one still in the ground is OK I have put a sturdy stake against it, I am keeping the broken one next to the puter room window, I saw the two squirrels playing but was in shock when they both ran towards my plant and jumped,
I do not give up easily, the two starts that Kaufman sent me got attacked by gnats, and then all the leaves dropped off, I planted them outside and now they are getting new leaves, slow, but sure.
Doris
