Strawberries wilting.

Haines Falls, NY(Zone 4b)

I recieved four beautiful, healthy strawberries a few days ago. Now they are wilting, and I'm afraid they will soon die. I planted them in good dirt, with enough moisture in a container in the shade. The runners on them are wilting too.
Anybody know why they are wilting, and how I can fix it fast?

When you transplant something the roots get shocked and damaged. That's why you usually need to also take off part of the top because it can't support all the leaves until it recovers and grows more roots. I'd think they would perk back up soon but if it were me I'd for sure remove the runners and maybe a few other leaves. If the plants are in containers, you don't want them to run anyhow most likely.

I've grown strawberries before, and seen transplant shock in them, but not like this. They are not recovering, they are getting worse. Please, help me, I really dont want them to die.

Guess I wasn't much help? Maybe someone else will have a better idea.

Thank you though. I'm kinda freakin' out. They will be fine, I bet. They look better already (could be lower temps, or absence of sun 'cause it evening)

Place something over them to shade them during the heat fo the day. I have used old umbrellas they work fine - just shade them untill they get some new roots in the ground.

Oh, and Vashur, I also cut of some leaves. Sorry I was rude to you

S'okay. I just couldn't figure out any other good reason for sudden wilting. If you could see my strawberry patch right now you'd see they sure don't die easily. I mowed the whole thing down and thinned them a week ago and they are merrily sending out new leaves already. :)

76154- Good idea there. I betcha that would help me on doing some transplanting for plants for the fall garden in July or August.

There ya go - just what I have done, give them shade and they will take much much better. That or wait for a few days of cloud cover!

They are still hangin' on, but not getting better. In the shade and no leaves or runners, they have stopped dying, but still wilting and not growing. HELP!!!!!
