Wow nice coloring

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I was looking at this banana today at HD and yours is so much nicer!

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Very pretty - I have never seen one with so much color.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

That is disgusting. You better mail it to Ohio so it does not disgrace your garden. LOL

Wow! That is dark! I am seeing them around here for a change, at $13. I guess the nurseries are catching on.

N. Mississippi, MS(Zone 8a)

Wow! Got any pups? ;-)

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Sorry no puppies as yet, this really has been a burgandy color to look at,especially next to the golden hop vine even makes the color look more richer.

Foley, AL

awsome coloring....

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

what kinda soil is it planted in? I'm trying to figure out if this is the reason your coloring is so outstanding. In my experience, these don't pup too much. Need a little more care than musa basjoo.
badseed, $13 doesn't seem like a bad price.

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

great color. Fingers crossed it doesn't change

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Wow,that is great color!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Well I composted that spot over winter, been trying to get a little more acid in my soil,by adding sulfer to it,that might might make the difference.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Don if you don't have nanner fertilzer what else can be used? I got a pup of this one from weeds and I'd sure like it to develop as close to it's potential as I can (given my zone ;).

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Lily, you need to use a little higher fertilzier in nitrogen, and I think something with a little higher in acid, like what you might fertilize rhodes or hydrangeas,or even evergreens,I also think were your at full sun would be the best as well, mine is getting afternoon shade. But dilute the fertilze to start off with then increase the dosage as it begins to leaf out more.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Thanks again Don Ü .......that fertilizer I have as well.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Don I noticed my banana is getting a lot more color......does this one look like yours? This is the fifth leaf now, the color is more purple than the pic is showing and about 1/2 the leaf has coloration.

Neri, It got better! Right before they closed, it was buy 2, get 2 free! I got 2 Basjoo and 2 Zebrina then traded 1 of each. LOL

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Nice color!! Added it to my wish list!!! LoL

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

That is a gorgeous color. I don't think I've seen one quite that all over dark.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Yep Lil,looks just like it,mine has kind of stopped growing and is choking on the 2 newest leaves, will try to get a pic tomorrow,it has never done that before in this vareity, that I've heard of.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Yippeeee!!!! :D Ü :D I hope it will get even closer to yours......can dream anyways. ;)

I can't get over how much the color has changed on this newest leaf. Thanks for the ID Don!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Looking forward to seeing your beauty tomorrow :)

...hope the leaf problem will get itself straightened out. The colour of yours continues to amaze me.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Thanks the lower leaves are starting to fade a lot now, since the sun
has been getting into the 90's.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

We were in the low hundreds for the past week and a half (with humidity)....so would mine have more purple in cooler temperatures?

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

That IS some awesome color.

The lower leaves would fade w/ age anyway in my experience.
Is the new growth as deeply and fully developed as in the first shot?

Ric

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Lil,I would think so,heat stress the color, and bleaches it out some,in my opinion.
Here are some pics of the the new growth choking,2 leaves about 1/4 the size, and a new leaf just staring to appear, yes Ric the new leaves are rich in color.

Yep that is weird how they came out. I can also see that some of the older leaves do look similar to mine.

No matter the purple in yours is gorgeous Don! Ü

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice markings ...this is one of my favorite varieties just because of the colors. :-)

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Eclipse check out M. 'Bordelon' also for nice patterns.
A little taller, quicker to pup and flower.

That is though the best 'Zebrina' I've ever seen!

Ric

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Lil,yes those are the deepest purples I ever seen in this vareity of bananas.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

henry I have bordelon from at work..nice type but still not as nice of an all around yard plant like zebrina.I don't care if they fruit, I just Love me some nanna foliage for that tropical look. :-)

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Kyle, that is such a great pic! I love the sunlight coming thru the leaves....almost looks like a neon sign!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have not seen a bordelon before. I love it. Great picture, Kyle. Just great.

The markings on your banana, Tropicman are just fantastic. I sure hope its pups look the same.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Whoa!
I thought for a minute you'd taken that in our yard.

Nice Group!

Ric

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

What a beauty!!! Nice colors!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Wow what an eye catcher that is!
Thanks

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Wow that is great color. Keep an eye out for the nanners. Mine surprised me last year. Here the bloom. It was only 2 years old.
Want to trade some nanners for some color. Mine has never looked that good.

Whats the lowest temp this banana can take Don?

Up above you said it goes into winter dormancy.....does that mean yours dies back? Last winter mine was a little pup and it didn't but now I'm not sure what to expect.
