Critters Got The Midnight Munchies.....

Joseph, OR(Zone 5a)

So someone is having a feast at my expense. Anyone seen anything like this before? This is my Grimaldi. I have an unknown pink in a pot about two feet away as well, same problem. And a Datura in a pot about five feet away, same thing again. And the Brugs and Dat are the only things that seem to be affected right now. None of the Daylilies, nothing else nearby. I have yet to find anything crawling around either.

Any ideas? I left for a while, started a new job, but it is nice to be back on! I like the banner at the top too!

Check for catapillers (army worms I think are what we usually get) at night. And also last year the pincherbugs had a field day on my brugs and dahlias. Here's a pic of them munching away. Most of them are on the upper part of the picture.

Now that is just plan gross Shelley. I had no idea they did that kind of damage.

Anybody know what the little lightgreen worms are? Yuck!!! on the undersides of the leaves, but no chewing damage!!

Shelly, those buggers were really hungry!! Jeanette

ewwww - but.....

StevieNicksFan - are you sure those are critters? I've seen that same kind of damage from wind.

Carol, I've had three of those little light green dudes and they didn't chew leaves here either - I thought because I used Bayer 3 in 1, as well as Bayer Tree & Shrub. BTW, I like both products and will use again, but I think I over did it on a couple of plants which sent out some deformed leaves, but the new leaves are fine and I didn't kill anyone. I hate to say this, and I'm whispering, those two products have really helped my bug situation and I'll use them a little more sparingly next time.

I'll keep more of a watch in the evenings for critters again. I thought about the wind, but the holes are close to the trunk, if you will, more of a protected area, and the brugs themselves are in a very protected area. I will watch what happens next time we have wind though. Thank you for the suggestions. Shelly, that is a gross picture! I am sorry you had to see that LOL!

LOL I really didnt like finding them on that Dahlia last year, but was glad when I knew what I was fighting against. I had to resort to Malathion, because nothing was working. I sprayed it at night on the worst Dahlia, and you could hear them falling off and hitting the ground. Sounded like it was raining LOL.

Do you have slugs? I had one of those "cartoon like epiphanies" where the light flashed and I remember seeing that kind of damage of Ti leaves, when the slugs get in the center where the new leaves are coming out and they have nibbled small holes that get bigger!

Corte Madera, CA

SNF, some of my brugs had similar damage. SLUGS! (Right on, Carol!). But check for caterpillars, too. Brugs seem to be their favorite.

I've only seen one slug in my garden, floating in my fountain, but I will keep an eye out for sure. Gross creatures!

Floating in your fountain? My favorite position for slugs!

Ya, it had this gross ring of white goo floating around with it. It was hard to grab out of the water!
