Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I love these Yumiko. Ü
I fell from a Chestnut tree......some's me but not sure about the stature part. ;)

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Welcome home Yumiko, and so sorry to hear of your grandfather.

Seems I come from the apple tree, and it sounds very close, expect for that loves kids part (I'd rather have a dog...) LOL

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

LOL Linda... I too, like you and Yumiko, fell from the apple tree. Most of the description is true for me. I love kids, which is obvious after working in schools for 15 years.

North Vancouver, B.C, Canada

What's going on here.....I am also an Apple!!
Pretty accurate I'd say except for the "shy"?????
Sorry to hear about your grandad Yumiko.
Solomon.

Well, I fell from a Poplar tree, and it describes me perfectly ... hm ... aren't they noisy? Couldn't be me...lol.

Thanks Yumiko,

Mississauga, ON(Zone 6a)

I'm a willow and a lot of it fits except for being musically inclined. I like music but don't play any instrument.

Fun pastime... Joan

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

hmmmm ~ I appear to be a bit of an Ash Diva. lol
Sorry to hear about your grandfather Yumiko.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Glad you're back, Yumiko. We missed you at round up but I'm glad you were able to go home. I am the weeping willow and most aptly described, I'm afraid. Thanks for this amusing and possibly insightful little gem. Dawn

Nanaimo, BC(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Thanks you for comforting words.
I am ok now.
I am glad you enjoyed little game here.

It is nice to be back, but where is summer???
fIt rained all weekend. Feels like winter.
All tomatoes I planted 2 weeks ago, they have not grown at all.
I hope we will have sunshine soon.

Riverview, NB(Zone 5b)

That is amazing. It's right on the money.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

We are in the same boat (literally) here in the interior. Very unusual for us too. Bring on that heat!

Donna, we're just finishing up with a heat/humidity/smog wave. Even my cats wouldn't go outside yesterday. I'm really, really looking foward to its end, which of course will be occasioned by a massive thunder storm tonight -bring it on -please!!! It just goes to show you, nobody's ever happy with what they have...lol.
Christine

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

I had heard about your difficulties down there, Christine. I have never experienced smog, but I am sure it really is worth whinning about. I don't have any justification for whinning because of rain. Thanks for putting it into perspective, Christine, and good luck getting some cooler, cleaner and wet air real soon.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Interesting, Yumiko - thank you! I'm a hazelnut, more or less - about 60% of one, anyway. It's interesting that the equinox and solstice days each get their own tree.

Yep, there's very rarely perfect weather, is there? This weather down here is oppressive. Our cats have been going out late at night, but they just loll about on the sidewalk. The other night I went out at 10:30 pm, and it was 26 with 81% humidity = humidex 36 celsius. The A/C has been going almost constantly. Give me dry prairie heat anytime. I'm looking forward to a good thunderstorm tonight, but nothing on the radar so far. Maybe the day's activities on parliament hill will stir up the hot air flow a little. ;-)

Shannon

The good news is that my all my annuals and outside tropicals are growing and blooming like the dickens; my one container of tomatoes is growing like gangbusters and has about a dozen little yellow flowers on it already - I only planted them on May 22nd. But we're back to cooler weather tomorrow, so all should normalize.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Whew! It'll be nice to see clear skies again. My jungle (I mean, yard) is doing well too. I'm late with my tomatoes - they're still in the flats. This week, by hook or by crook, every last plant is going in the ground, whether the plant is still alive or not! :-)

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

That is the good thing about a high humidex reading isn't it? The plants just love the heat and humidity. Me and my tomatos, peppers, cucumbers and the rest of my veggie and flower garden are waiting for big time heat. But wait, wasn't that me yowling a couple weeks ago when then the thermometer was reading 30+ and that was without any high humidity. Can you just imagine the cry baby I would be if I was living down east with you, Christine and Shannon? You would probably have to kill me, that's all. The only time I can remember experiencing high humidity was when we were living in Portage La Prairie, just outside of Winnipeg. It was August when we moved there from Edmonton. I couldn't believe it. I don't think I slept for 2 weeks. Everyone there had de-humidifiers which I am sure you familiar with in Onatrio and Quebec as well.
Although, a few years before we moved from Edmonton here to B.C., we'd have some pretty hot and humid days . Seems like it got more humid in recent years than it ever had been in the past.

Tell us, Yumiko. What was the weather like when you went to Japan? What are the summer conditions like?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Just thought I'd chime in with another bit of whining while anticipating Yumiko's weather report... :-) It's 11:20 pm or thereabouts, temperature 25 + humidity 87% = humidex 35 degrees. I think we'll have to try one of those dehumidifiers, Donna. I've never had one, but my mother has suggested it as well. I wonder if I could empty the water and use it for plants -? That would be a neat bit of recycling. Do you have one, Christine?

Funny, in the winter it's too dry - poor cats get zapped with everything they touch. We recently got a gadget that fits onto the dryer exhaust, to direct the warm, moist air back into the basement in the winter, to conserve heat & moisture. But this time of year, the thought of that makes me wilt.

Yumiko, whenever you have time I look forward to hearing a bit more about Japan's weather too, and anything else that you would like to share with us. How is the weather in Nanaimo these days?

Shannon

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Shannon, Yumiko was telling us in an earlier post above that the weather in Nanaimo really sucks right now. Feels more like winter to her. I concur. The interior of BC is just as bad.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Oh. Okay....thanks! I feel like I should retract the question or something.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

I can attest to Yumikos weather last weekend, we were camping (not like Lilypon's DS, we did it in comfort) and it poured rain and it was very cool and windy. Today was a bit better, but windy, sun and rain showers.

You guys in Ontariairairio better get your act together. We're coming to T.O. the last weekend of June and the first week of July. It had better not be as stinking hot and humid then, I'll be like a limp overcooked noodle!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Actually Linda DS said it was more comfortable sleeping there than on his bed......turns out there was quite a layer of peet under their tents.

Given everyone's weather maybe it will bode well for here......today we were warm/hot with humidity but the nights temperatures make sleeping a treat still.

No, I don't have a dehumidifer, but the central air conditioning also performs as a dehumidifier. I actually have a humidifier on my furnance, but only run it in winter - to keep plants, cats and my sinuses happy. Its only going up to 28C today, but the humidity's still way up there. Right now (4:30 a.m.) its 22C and with the humidity, feels like 30C. My next hydro bill's gonna be a big one....lol.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

LOL, Linda. :D

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

No way.........shy and reserved! me?????????? the rest is right on! E

Nanaimo, BC(Zone 7a)

It semms like everyone had strange weather.

Summer in Japan is hot. It is like "heat" hot. If you go to the shady area,
it is still almost same temparature. You need to have airconditioner all the time.
Many women get sick after going back on forth from outside and cool airconditioner room.
Canadian summer is great! Humidity in Ontario is nothing to me.I love Canadian summer.
Although I found sun light is very very strong.I would say "sun burn hot"
My hands get sun tan easily from just drinving a car.
Winter in Japan (Osaka area)is relatively mild and short. The temparature is similar to here.
There is a Tamagawa university campus in Nanaimo.
Many horticulture student come summer to make their thesis.
Since UV in Canada is strong, the can see visible results from their testing plants.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

That's interesting Yumiko, thanks for the info.

I wonder if that's a bad sign, that the UV in Canada is strong. Global warming? Expanding hole in the ozone layer?

I lived in Naniamo 25 years ago and went to the college there, when it was more like a trade school than a college.
(I'm starting to feel old, at least today.)

Linda

Nanaimo, BC(Zone 7a)

It is. Tamagawa university in Tokyo is quite large, but Nanaimo campus is more like
summer cottage. 25years? I did not know that building was so old.
I think latitude is higher than in Japan, It probably give higher UV in summer.

By the way,Linda .
I love your photos. You take beautiful flower shots like pro.

Yumiko
