HELP!!!!! Anyone...I have injured hummer!!!

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

I have it contained in quite area. Should I attempt to force feed? It doesn't seem interested in sugar water I have placed w/ it. All our wildlife/animal rehab places are out to lunch, and I need help NOW!

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Keep it covered wirh something until the rehab people are back from lunch. Get your car and stuff ready to head out.

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

It is covered, but I am unable to transport. Nearest rehab is about 60 miles away.

Stay calm and quiet!! :-)

Calm, yeh, sure! I'm a birder from way back and hummers are a favorite.
Poor thing.

No speeding, no tickets, blah, blah. You are doimg all you can.

Did you call them tigerlily?

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

I called everyone! Wildlife Rescue, Northwest Animal Rescue.......both are OUT so I left contact info on machine. My first call was to the "birdman" at the local Ranger Station, and wouldn't you know, he's out in the field today!

I so badly want to help this tiny creature, but guess all I can do is keep it in a warm and quiet place.

I securely taped a small lamp shade to a plate and covered it with an orange sack. The hummer, a juvy probably, but perhaps an adult female, is still alive, so am hoping..................

They can't live long without something to eat. My guess is that at some point it may be worth trying to force feed some sugar water with a squashed small insect/spider. Keep trying that phone. Good luck.

How about advice from a local vet? By phone.

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

I called Wildlife Images, a wildlife rehab place a few hours away.

It was suggested that I keep it quite for an hour or so (already been longer than that) and then return it to the outdoors. They seldom survive, I was told, even w/ their experts looking after them.

I cannot just take it back out.It was only able to fly a foot or so above the ground, and I'm sure my dachsies would get it. I thought sure they would while I was attempting to catch it.

I will try to feed it soon, but wish to be sure it has calmed after the trauma of injury and then my giving chase.

Praying hard here,
Julie

You are doing all you can, Julie.

Someone finally called back, but hummer expired while we were on the phone. ;-( Boo hoo! I'm bummed!

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Me too, Julie. :-(

:-( I am so sorry there wasn't anything you could do for the little hummer. But you have such a big heart to try so hard to save him. He was lucky to have you there with him and keep him safe from further harm until he died. Big hugs to you ((((((((((((((((((Julie)))))))))))))))))

Oh you sweet thing! I'm so sorry this happened to you but you did all you could. Unfortunately, while hummies seem to be tough little critters, they can be pretty fragile too. You have a big heart.

Take care, :)

Oh, I'm so sad for you too. People say that "nature has to take it's course" etc, but it sure is hard when it just falls on your doorstep. :(

Thank you all.
