Oh you lucky lucky lady!! Can't wait to see them !

Well now I know what to look for....

Fair Lawn, NJ(Zone 6b)

My big Mama is showing some activity too. In our case in 6b this would be the Spring time flush on older growth, not to be mistaken for the late Summer fireworks. ( Now grow already.....so we can have those flowers in August...)

Wow! So that is where the buds develop. You are all in warmer climates than I am - my zone is 5b. I bought the recommended fertilizers yesterday. Do you think there is any chance I could still get some blooms this year? (I have to stop typing now so I can cross my fingers. LOL)

Clare, congratulations....even though I can't resist saying how JEALOUS I am LOL. :-)

NoH2O, I don't see why not!

Fair Lawn, NJ(Zone 6b)

NoH2O,
yes - you should!
I find that this plant flowers on newer MATURED growth. In 5b/6b or similar we see now new shoots and pads which hopefully by around August have matured sufficiently so we will see flowers then.

My plant is doing an early budding in 6b, because I am nowadays able to grow it very sunny and warm during the winter inside, it had produced some new growth then already. But it started now (a bit later than usual) its major growing season outside.

Looking good Clare! You will have a Show!!

Darius, we overlapped!

NoH2O, I agree. When I lived in Oklahoma (7a or 7b.... can't remember exactly and I'm too lazy to go look at the zone map LOL), my Epi oxy bloomed right at the end of July. The bud didn't start to appear until late June. So in your slightly cooler climate, I'd imagine it might be late August til yours has "thawed out" enough to put on a show :-). Keep those fingers crossed....and I will too for you :-)

(uncrosses fingers) That is soooo encouraging. I would absolutely love to see some blooms this year. Oh boy Oh boy Oh boy..... Now I need the temperatures to cool down so I can start fertilizing. LOL

Fair Lawn, NJ(Zone 6b)

??
I fertilized mine yesterday evening, gave the pot a good soaking. Temp was about 85 degr F.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

I just got the fertilizer yesterday, temp was 90, was gone all evening, it's 90 again today. Should be able to fertilize this evening. I always read that you shouldn't fertilize over 90 (or maybe it was 85)......not true?

Fair Lawn, NJ(Zone 6b)

I would think early morning or in the evening is surely ok? I usually don't spray fertilizer over the whole plant at noon when it is very hot and sunny. But soaking a pot, I have done it any time.
Sounds right?

Evening sounds good to me. Morning is not my best time of day. LOL

OOOooo! How exciting Clare!! Ursula too! I'm a little late seeing this lol Keep us posted.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Guys! I was gone all day and am catching up on all the threads now. Thanks for celebrating my blooms with me. These will be my first epi blooms ever! I just got these cuttings last summer, and so I am really excited to have blooms aleady.

Ursula, congratulations on your blooms too! I can't wait to see them and to compare. You are right that they all appear to be on mature leaves that grew last year.

Some of these buds are fairly close to the ground or at the base of the container, and I'm wondering whether I should elevate them for a better show. I probably will place them on the ledge of the Koi Pond. They should be safe there.

Does anyone have little tiny spiders making webs on the leaves? I don't think they are spider mites, and they are probably harmless, but I don't like them!

NoH20, I too have fertilized on hot days. I don't think it matters what the temp is when you fertilize as long as it is the right season.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Clare. I fertilized this evening and then put all the plants in the shed because thunderstorms were coming in. I wanted to be sure they soaked up all the nutrients. LOL

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

That sounds good:-) Stay warm and dry!
