Live Oak
Quercus virginiana

The hubby climbed up to remove a fallen limb (long ago wind damage?). Son is bringing a vine over to help with climb down. After research on davesgarden, I think the vine is poison ivy! Whoops...

Did either one develop the typical rash?

No, but I have a lovely 5" x 6" patch of wall to wall blisters on the underside of my arm from the same day! Most likely from petting the dog & then scratching a mosquito bite. So far, the kids are coming up immune. The hubby & I have had two boughts of poison ivy a piece. Only one has required cortizone treatment. The tract is 12.5 acres and there is a pile of poison ivy. Also trumpet vines--another poisonious vine that I found the name for on this site!

Our new rules are 1) always visit the beach on the way home, 2) always throw the dog in the water & 3) scratch nothing until after the whole beach thing!

What a hoot! I remember a former neighbor that wrapped a large vine around her body in order to remove it from the tree. She had rashes from head to toe.

I read a story of a family of 6 that went camping and to make the beds alittle more cushy used leaves from surrounding plants. (Poison Ivy and poison oak) They all were hospitalized for the severity of the rashes from head to toe.

yeah my mom when she was little burnt the berries in a campfire and everyone's throats swelled up and started itching. fortunately for me, i'm immune. i dont even get it if the leaves are rubbed on me. i'm so lucky!

diehrd.....don't assume that you have life-long immunity. I understand that one can acquire sensitivity with repeated exposure. At least I can see poison ivy. My misery is caused by chiggers, those little red bugs that bore into my skin and drive me c-r-a-z-y.
