alocasia V. macrorrhiza

Foley, AL

I just re-poted my v-macrorrhiza and I had 34 pups in there I was so impressed. It was in a three gallon pot. but it had 3-4 inches of stalk showing but I reset it and now it looks like how I want it too. I have two of them and that one had the least amount of pups showing in it. makes me wonder how old it is. I also traded 12 out of that same pot... just thought I would brag... =-) and those are the ones I paid $14.00 for....

ely you have that many pups. Mine has 1 pup now and hoping it will get more.

Molly yours looks great. Now will the pure white one stay all white or will it change. I would take a picture of mind but my batteries are charging.

Can you please tell me what kind of fertizlier you use on them? All my EE's are really doing good and wanted to give them some fertilizer but not for sure what kind to use. This is my first year growing EE's so I still need all the help I can get.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

2PD,

I haven't done any fertilizing at all and it does sound like we do need some HELP, on whether or not to fertilize.

I got mind about 6 weeks ago off EBay so I'm new as well with them.

I think Larry ought to answer this question, he is crazy about elephant ears, right? And it's his thread.......................Oh Laaaarrrryyyyyyy!!!!

:^))))

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Come on Larry anybody that can grow these and get 34 pups should be able to answer our question. Or are you ignoring us??

I use something from a company called AG ORG? its organic fert. 4-2-2 It doesn't leave salt or anything like that behind. Its chicken poop boiled down to take out the burn.and you get feathers and all that other stuff with it. Its safe to use on philo's gingers etc. tropical stuff...but you have to dig down in the dirt and apply it. cause if you just put it on top of it it will grow fungus. ITs $18.00 a heavy bag I have actually had 46 pups....out of that one pot there is a bunch of people on here that has them.. and I am mostlikely going to have more, than that on the second one.

last year is when my theroy started. I had a alo. longiloba these nut looking babies would come out the stalk of the plant and never make a babbis. so I cleaned all the babies off that was around the base of it. and reset it in the ground. nut looking things grow all in them and those are baby alocasias. The stalk of it was about 7 inches and I added more bark "alocasia love bark" and maybe amonth or two later there was tons of them. I think aloha does something similar to what I do. but it works for me. but you need to leave a little bit of the brown stuff on some of them. some want to have that bulb above ground.

I think I answered everything.

Ely, my new baby already has white showing on her little baby ears, which by the way have doubled in size in just one week!! I sure do like this baby, and I bet it becomes my favorite baby.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Can someone tell me if this one wants sun, partial sun, shade or what? Thanks so much. Mine is growing, but maybe it isn't placed in the right position for best growth.

Tri-Cities, WA(Zone 7b)

Here I am trying to decide what my wife's reaction would be if I bought yet another expensive plant on eBay and y'all are going on about having dozens of pups! Methinks I need to set up a trade. . .

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

I finally got the batteries charged and was able to take a picture of my new pup. But then I noticed I had another one coming up. I had to remove two leaves before I took the picture they were turning yellow. Could that mean to much moisture? I have been keeping her in part sun and part shade. Could that be the problem for the leave turning yellow?

It would be happier in the ground and they get larger much faster in the ground. :)

Here is another view of her.

roz that is so cool I love that fert that is mixed in. and bet its because they love there new momie...... " roz's grandchildren thought my plants stunk...LOL"

If it was me I would pinch the yellow leaf off. that to me drains energy out of the plant. it will just grow another leaf..

Brugie, I put mine in indirect light. but I think they can grow in full sun. or part shade. I think indirect light and plucking the leaves when they droop helps them grow faster. and water that sits out a day..

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

I would love to go to all the plant sales, and will let you know if Marie can take off on that day. My son's team is going to State Soccer tournament on that week end, but not me!!!!! He is coaching, not playing. I can miss!!

Ely, the only reason your plants stunk, to them, was the wonderful addition to the pot that you made. I think that is why mine are getting so big. That stuff is good - stinky, but good.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Ely,

Yesterday one of my customers showed me her bag of Chicky poop. She said she protects it with her life and she wouldn't share with me. Waaaahhhhhh

Where did you say you can buy this stuff from?

Molly
:^))))

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Wow that Chicky poop must be good stuff if a person would want to protect it with her life and she wouldn't share. I need to know where to get it as will please can you give us a address.

Linda

Foley, AL

yeah its good stuff... I will have to get the address off the bag or a web site. I got it in elberta, which is right next to pensacola. I don't think I can ship it either... it stinks, "Smells good to me" and I don't know if its a chemical or not...
