When Darin (Pooba on eBay) had some Dutch auctions going, I bought a few cuttings from him. A few of them have inflo's! This one is beautiful, but it does appear to be mislabeled. It is not the registered cultivar Kona Hybrid, which has much wider petals and which is a softer pink, but I have to say that I like this one much better! Some over at Maui Plumeria Gardens (my other plumeria hang out) say that it may be called Hawaiian Pink Spider, but I can't find any reference to that name to verify it. So it will have to remain unnamed, but I love it! It does appear to be very similar to the picture that Exotic Plumeria has of their Kona Hybrid, and it is possible that Darin got his plant from them, but their Kona Hybrid is not the same as the registered cultivar.
Pooba's Kona Hybrid
thanks for the tip, Clare, I have one that could use the help
thanks for the tip, Clare, I have one that could use the help. what's the variegated background, reminds me of pineapple mint
Sure, Nery! That is Variegated Swedish Ivy, Plectranthus coleoides. Here's a link: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/57963/index.html It has lovely fragrant foliage. Here it is at the base of my Hardenbergia vine in this picture, and I am growing it all over the place.
Clare, just how many plumerias do you have???? You seem to be a little encyclopedia of plummie info. Good for all of us!!!!!!
LOL, Ca! That's a little like asking my age or my weight! LOL! Suffice it to say that I have somewhere over a hundred:-) Thanks for the compliment. I have just researched them a bit because I love them so much.
Clare_CA:
Your age or your weight or the number of plumies.
I met a nice little VERY old lady, and I deigned to ask her age.
She whispered to me, "Can you keep a secret?"
I answered, "Yes, of course."
She whispered back, breathlessly, "So can I."
But, seriously, any spark of life from TW?
LOL, Brad! That was a good joke.
Okay, I have 51 seedlings, and 61 different plumeria cultivars, most of which are rooting or just rooted cuttings!
TW is doing great. The three-branched one has leaves already, and the center cut one isn't doing anything, but it always takes a little longer for center cut ones because they have to push out branches from the leaf nodes. Your gift may keep on giving. A friend of mine in Thailand would like to have a TW, and I have promised him a cutting of mine some time next year:-)
Clare_CA
That's great ! And the TW will love the trip. Be well.
Clare,
This Kona Hybrid Looks almost exactly the same as the 'Japanese Lantern' I got from Pooba.
There is no pendulous characteristic yet as it is a cutting but the flower looks identical to me.
What do you think? my photo isnt as good as yours. There is a yellow center in there. ;)
Did we do this on another forum? :P
Hi Michael! No, they look different to me. I got a Japanese Lantern too from Pooba. The flowers are smaller and the petals are thinner and the color is more red on the JL. Pooba's Kona Hybrid -- which isn't Kona Hybrid at all so I'm now calling it spidery pink -- has large petals which are pink and have orange in the middle.
That clears that up! ;)
Your JL and mine are the same. ;)
I think so too:-)
