Placed an order with Epies by Pat this morning.......getting serious about expanding the color range of the Epis I have. Also planning on dividing and repotting my three large pots into some additional containers by color. This once a year burst of blooms takes some planning ahead to assure a good show of flowers.....what are your plans?
Getting Serious About Next Year's Big Show
I dare not order any new ones because I must move before winter and I have enough plants to move as it is. If I had any idea I might move within a 4 hour drive, I'd probably go for some new ones now though!
Meanwhile, I'm working on feeding and taking more care of the many new babies I got as cuttings last summer plus encouraging my 2 mature ones to set blooms by August! (I'm several zones cooler than you are.)
I also have about 6-8 pots of holiday cactus to baby.
I have to admit that I have no plans to acquire new epi's unless something rare comes along. Friends have been very generous with me, and I have ten or twelve containers (including hanging baskets) of epi's to care for. Most of these containers have cuttings which are rooting or just rooted as I have not been growing these for very long. This is the first time I have gotten blooms from cuttings which were just received last year. I thought I was going to have to wait a long time for blooms, but I am delighted that I didn't have to. Also, like Darius, I will have to move eventually and will have hundreds of plants to move when that time comes so I've put a lid on any more acquisitions for now.
Right now, I have three different epiphyllum oxypetalum plants, obtained from three different sources, with buds. I've counted 12 buds so far. I am really excited about these. As much as I love the day-blooming colored epiphyllums, I am most excited about the night-blooming fragrant white epiphyllum flowers. I have collected a few different ones and am really excited about those.
Candy, I look forward to seeing your new colors! Which ones did you get?
This is a good distraction for me.....since I have not one bare spot of ground left to plant anything, I'm going vertical with baskets and covering any hardscape with pots!! LOL
After staging my daughter's house for sale today, I treated myself to an hour at one of my favorite nurseries. This is a nursery that is fairly high end and touts its plant "expertise."
Lookit this cute little "Euphorbia" orphan that came home with me. (I no longer bother to point out their errors to them, I just buy the plant and leave satisfied.) Half price = $2
LOL, Candy! Nice epi your got there for half price! LOL at Euphorbia:-) I wonder what color it will turn out to be.
I love to do the cuttings from friends and..........never know what you'll get?? Elaine
