I've just ordered two books to try and beef up my understanding and knowledge about this wonderful group of plants:
Epiphyllum - Frank Supplie
Schlumbergera - Frank Supplie & Dick van der Zee
Which books do you have or like in addition to these two? I have some general reference books, but nothing that addresses Epiphyllum / Schlumbergera specifically.
What "Epiphyllum" or "Orchid Cactus" Books do you like?
Sadly, I have none. Let us know how you like the new books. There seems so much confusion about these plants.
I'm afraid that everything I've learned about epi's has been from you! LOL! I don't have any books either, but I have found lots of good information on the Internet. Let me know what you think of the books you ordered.
Clare....now you are making me blush. Surely you are being too kind, cause I know we've been learning right along side each other. I just want to still have time to stop and smell the Epis......they have been blooming for me for about 15 years and some of those years I didn't even know what they were. :-)
Are all Epips fragrant?
The blooms are so beautiful,I guess fragrance would be an added bonus-the icing on the cake.I have loved & enjoyed seeing everyone's gorgerous plants-I'm in hog heaven.
Most are, some more than others. : )
Thanks Darius.
Happenstance, is your schlumbergera book from here:??
EPRIC
Epiphytic Plant Research Information Center
EPRIC Has printed and published a new schlumbergera book, for more info: http://www.epric.org/schlu.html
ISBN 90-5716-999-1 .
You can buy it from
http://www.epric.org
which is in the netherlands.
Yes that's the one, but I ordered it from Rainbow Gardens along with the other Epi book. Can't wait to get them!
Candy, you deserve a great deal of credit for you have provided valuable growing information about epi's and have been extremely helpful to everyone with questions. If we didn't have you and Ursula here, I would not have had the courage to ask for an Epi forum because I don't have the answers to a lot of questions about growing them, and I don't have the experience that you and Ursula do. So, thank you!
Here is my Saigon today:
Awww gee Clare......I tend to be a nag, so resisted the temptation to whine for yet another forum. It took someone with courage to actually ask for it and that was you. :-)
:-) Yay! We got our own forum!
Received the two books I listed above. They are small, like 8" x 6" and about 80 pages each. Excellent quality printing and paper. The Epi book is not so much a text reference as a wonderful picture book with something like 500 excellent quality images of cultivars. I'm pleased with it.
The Schlumbergera book is of the same quality, but much more text on cultivation and care, as well as history of the plant. Again, excellent color images!
I would recommend both books!
I got 2 books of about Epiphyllum 'Frank Supplie' and Epiphyllum Basic ll 'Sean Minogue' from Rainbow Gardens Bookshop...
It really good....

Well, I don't know much of anything YET. Ha.
So.....I have ordered that Epi book also plus the magazine they are putting out. both are for sale on Ebay with the book being about the same price as Rainbow gardens. It will no doubt take mine longer to get here tho. Ha Ha. I LOVE books on plants I am interested in, don't you? ESPECIALLY ones with great color pics.
