Im sick of looking at this one stalk with little leaves coming out the side and a palm tree like top...Im thinking its the norm for snowbank since a nursey around here has left overs from last year and the plants look like they wont get talller but trying to branch out the side...
My question is can I chop the top off and get it to root?..I think its a picky brug and I dont want to lose it...Judy
Can you take cutting from Snowbank?
Don't chop...Give it a little Super thrive. And don't over water.. Keep as shaded as possible, but bright light. It should show soom more growth ,, fert.as per usual. and good luck
Thanks Ruth..I will give it this summer but after that its going to be chopped and tortured..lolol....did you get the soap yet?...judy
cinnabor where do you purchase Superthrive?
Judy can you post a picture of your plant?
Judy
juttz you have mail
Judy
Better repot as well as pre. advise.needs new shoes.. I haven't rec. the soap as yet..
Judy Wal Mart and Lowes carry it here
Judy I didn't mean not to answer you..DH walked into the room and started talking and I forgot... WalMart does have the Super Thrive. I also got some at a plant show I went to WM price was better..
And superthrive is a stimulant for the roots?....Ive never heard of this...and Ruth, I sent the soap out mid week..should have it by tomorrow..please let me know when it gets to you....and thanks for the headsup on the superthrive...judy
Our Wal-Mart said they didn't have it but I will check again. I didn't think to check Lowe's. Thanks everyone.
Judy
its cute like it.. i used to use super thrive they quit carrying it so just use m.g. now..
When I find it I buy extra it doesn't go bad..and sometimes it's hard to find.. I use it on anything that needs a boast or is sickly..I have used it for a root bath on some brugs that were having trouble. It seems to work, but be careful it takes so little..strong stuff. Read the label...not one of those things that if a little is good more must be better///don't work like that.
Look in your phone book for a hydroponics store
thats where I get mine
Juttz, I like that look. As soon as it Ys it will grow branches on top, up on the sides and start looking more like a tree. I personally prefer the tree look to the bush. You can squeeze in more plants by underplanting. LOL Yours sure look healthy!
Kell, we shall see what happens..I was wondering if everybody has trouble with snowbank...Ive only talked to people around here in Michigan and find they all have the problem with dropping leaves...I will try and find the superthrive but after looking on ebay its pretty expensive and I dont think Ive seen it at walmart or I would have checked it out..Ive been hearing about hormonal growth products but Ive never seen them in our stores...
I guess I would like to know if there is any problems trying to take cuttings from it too..not that im going to chop it yet..I will give it one more summer and then its surgery time...lolol...Judy
Hmmm, I got a little snowbank cutting in from wayside this spring and I just planted it in-ground where I thought it'd only get a few peeks at direct sun but now I think it's going to see more than just a peek in the afternoon. Are more prone to sunburn than the other variegateds?
I cut my Snowbanks down last fall as it looked just like yours Jutzz. I was expecting it to branch, but, it didn't. It really helped the look of the plant and I had no problem rooting the cutting. My plant gets morning sun and is doing great. I have gotten no blooms to date, but, I am totally happy with the variegated leaves.
To me it looks like it's not happy where it is and could be healthier.
Put her in a bigger pot , 5 gal would be good. Loosen the roots and give her new soil.
I plant mine in the ground for the summer and she loves it.
If you can do this it's nice but not all people have the time or the right space.
Feed her with MG every time you water her. Fish Emulsion will work wonders as a foliar spray (not in the sun! ).
Do not prune any growth as all extra foliage acts like energy collectors for the plant.
If you decide to 'chop' her top knot off, which I would never do, please do it within the next month while it is full of growth hormones and meristemic tissue.
The problem with fall cuttings is that they are already going dormant. That is why there is such a risk of cutting failure.
Cut it in half AFTER you have potted UP so the main plant can start sending out more growth. This way you will still have the mother plant for back-up if the cutting does not take.
The white part of the leaves is susceptible to burning. Snowbank has the largest white areas of any variegate brugs that I've seen.
I still have not gotten a Miners Claim brug which looks like it would be close in white area proportions, just a more irregular pattern.
Filtered light with morning sun is ideal.
The good part about keeping her potted it that you can move her until you find the place she does best in.
We all do our best.
Good luck,
Shirley
May I ask what superthrive is going for and the amount?..I looked on ebay and for a 4 ounce bottle its almost 10.00 is this about right?...this would be with psotage too...judy
I pay $7.00 more or less at WM.. Usually with tax about $8.00
Well Ive got to check them out...is that a 4 ounce bottle?...that seems like such a tiny little bottle ...Judy
Judy,
I just checked by Wal-Mart & Lowe's in our area and neither have it in stock, nor do they plan to stock.
Judy
I'm very surprised that WalMart does not have it, Judy. Every WalMart in our area carries it and usually we are the last to get everything. Sometimes WalMart tell you the do have stuff, like cypress mulch, and when you get there, with a truck, they don't have your mulch. Also, they do the opposite and the SuperThrive is so tiny that they just might not see it, or, of course, they could be sold out...
I just called our Walmart adn nope they dont carry it...and our walmart does teh same thing..tell you they have something and they dont...ticks you off big time.....Judy
Our WalMart had lots of it today. Two different sizes. $7.84 for four ounces. Didn't check the smaller size. It isn't expensive because you mix it by so many drops per gallon of water. It does go a long ways.

I called both Lowes and Walmart...they didnt even know what I was talking abuot...called our local nursery and they ahd it but for a whopping price of almost 11.00 after taxes..I will have it for a long time so not too upset..just glad I found it..now my snowbank is now potted up in a nice big pot, given a nice drink of superthrive and ready to stretch its little legs....lol....Judy
I stopped by a local nursery a few weeks ago thinking I should pick up another bottle of Superthrive. Well, they didn't have it. So I asked about it and the lady told me that Superthrive didn't pay their 'taxes' (maybe somehow she meant licensing fees) and that there shouldn't be a store in Oklahoma that has it this year. Hmmmmm, I hated to hear that!
That's a new one I haven't heard Brinda. One time, near Halloween, my grocery guy told me that they didn't have Kraft carmel candy because it was so popular they quit making it. I still think that's so funny, lol.
I surely agree, Judy - last time, I called to see if they had my mulch, yes, I was told, I asked, are you certain, he said 2 1/2 pallets. I had a truck driven up there and I went too and, you guessed it, they did not have it, they didn't have any. We were only 10 miles away but I was still miffed.
WHEW!!!! I found some, at Wal-Mart!!! A little over $8 including tax.
They have rearranged the merchandise and sure enough there it was right in the middle of the aisle of fertilizers about head high. That will teach me to ask instead of hunting high and low. It's just easier for some clerks or their customer service to say "no" than to check their computer for it. Just like it was easier for me to ask, than look!!
Thanks everyone!!
Judy
I'm so glad you found it Judy! And, it's at the same place at your WalMart as it is here - I started to mention that but I thought, surely not...I still have about half of the bottle I started with last year, it goes a long way...
