I am just wondering mine died, mr. franks died, and the nursery were we got it from theres all died... can you dry this bulb out in the pot and start watering it in the spring or do you have to keep it alive all winter?
ely
how did you winter your alocasia sarian
eek. My DD just bought one. I had no idea it was going to be a problem to overwinter. =(
Sorry to hear about yours. It's a cool looking plant. How did you try to overwinter yours?
Cheri'
you should be alright you live in 9a.
I never let it freeze and tried to keep it alive... didn't work...LOL

I think there cuteeeter when there younger.... kinda like green shield, but when it gets bigger the cuteeeeness goes away.
ely
whew! yes, now that you mention it I remember she told me it was hardy.
I guess they need to go dormant. nothing I've read indicates that, tho. hmmm. strange. I'll be interested to hear of other's experiences.
Cheri'
Ely, they will rot if their feet are wet and cold. I have previously lost the franks and several other alocasia. I have installed a heated bed in my greenhouse with heat cables covered with several inches of sand. Going to try growing my more sensitive ees on it this winter.
That is a good idea. sarian and BV seem to me the hardest to keep alive.
ely
when did you get them....
ely
ely, I have had trouble with Reticulate and zebrina
really... well sirian and black velvet are just so water sensitive. sirian has just never liked me...LOL I can keep a black v alive up to winter. the the bulb turns to chalk....LOL I have found out some of them you can just stop watering and they will be fine.. polly NGG etc.
ely
janet got my a. v. odora aru today you will have one soon.. The thing was loaded with soon to be babies...

The little one I posted a picture of came from you at the swap last year, remember all the liners you gave me?? I killed most of them. :( So Sorry!!!!
The sarian made it for most of the summer, then, all of a sudden, poof, and it was gone. :(
probaly the hurricane, NGG is alot hardier than what it says, corozon came back up for mr. frank, mark campbell, I have two shoots coming back up with it. alot more are coming up too. and I bet the ditch across the street is going to be filled with alocasias...LOL
ely
ely, if your corozon comes back and it has babies, may I get a start from you. I lost mine and have tried to get one and everyone is sold out. Glad to trade.
