June 4 ...and then there was the duck...

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

that spent the day in my DD's house. She threw out the sheets and is getting a new mattress today. She called last night shortly after they got home from a little league game around 8:30, having been gone on a very long class field trip all day. She was tired, the kids were tired and there was mysterious duck poop in the diningroom and kitchen. It became much less mysterious when she turned on her bedroom light and there was a duck sitting on her lovely hand made by her father cherry bedside table. There was no damage in the kids' rooms, but her room was trashed. Her DH is on a canoe trip with his college suitemates and won't be back until tomorrow. She did get a phone call from him last night, but, oddly, he didn't really seem to believe her. We went over and Stan scooped the duck up with one of the GKs' butterfly nets and took it out side. It made the mistake of flying low across the dark backyard, and Daisy, DGD's cat, took off after it. We decided that it was a little like Goldilocks and the three bears, except in this case it was the parent's room that was just right. Poor DD, what a mess to clean up! She got her MIL's rug steamer and was going to call later to let me know what was up with the mattress shopping.

Other than than, it is just your basic grey day here. Stan has hay down, but it is unlikely that there will be any chopping. The man that was helping during the week came yesterday and said he had found a full time job, which is very good for him, not so great for us. We were happy for him, though, we can't afford to hire him full time, and hope this works out. He hasn't had very good luck finding a job since his dad sold the cows.

I guess I'll go out and pull some more forget-me-nots and see if I can plant some flower seeds. Take good care.
