Confesions of a Brugaholic:
Just thought you all should know that until I found DG - every time I looked at my solitary brug -- I felt it was trying to communicate a feeling of loss and lonliness, a big empty void inside that was never replete.
After reading the brug forum I found the answer!!
My brug was a lonely only child -- starved for siblings.
Well ---we remedied that with the use of plastic and the internet and now my lonely brug is soon to have many siblings in diverse colors [Gardening Gods and Florida weather permitting].
Pictures of my brug included... can you notice the big smile on its face?? LOL

Confessions of a Brugaholic Bad Brug Mama
wow what a lovely Brug. I am under stress because I have a lot of Brugs planted ouside now and the weather and bugs are not treating them right it is quite a struggle to keep them alive.
Doris
holy cow... you only have "1" and are one of the lucky folks who leave them in ground and grow trees?
Well congratulations on making a decision and going for it!
(yeah, like 'I have too much free time', 'I don't worry enough about bugs and bad weather', 'I have too much grass that requires watering and fertilizing all the time'...)
;)
I don't know how "lucky" we are to be able to garden 24/7 here -- lol! Only kidding!! It is a big perk for Florida -- although the summer gets too hot to do much outside. Gardening early AM and late PM -- the skeeters, no-seeums, chiggers and other vermin make spraying yourself with heavy applications of DEET a necessary part of life.
Lately I have been working so hard in the garden I don't have the energy to go work out in the gym! Well, at 67, I guess that is not too bad, considering the work I do.
Here is pix of a garden I installed [with my own two hands including schlepping the blocks]. This garden was installed this year next to our new deck addition. The slope allowed me to tier the beds.
DH usually helps me with this stuff, but he was busy remodeling the master bath. Knocked his socks off when he saw what I did. LOL
WOW I'm impressed!!!!
Judy
Beautiful job on the gardens...I love the white brug as well,,it has ruffels.
Wow, nicely done!
Best time to garden is in the morning and afternoon anyway - colors are fresher in the morning and the beer colder in the evening. The rest of the day.... Go Fishing!! Or at least go catch a bucket of blue crabs. (did 4 years in Mayport and 4 years in Charleston SC so I know about all the flying teeth. :) Thats where I discovered Avon Skin-So-Soft. Works like a charm and you smell good too)
Hi Zingy,
I love your use of cottage stone to define the garden. I used some of that myself, and I'm planning on using more as soon as my surgical incision heals enough for me to do that kind of work. Bending over is still slow and painful, but things are moving in the right direction. We also used cottage stone to build a small retaining wall for a hill we have in the back. It holds up well, and the stone are small enough that a woman can do it herself. Yea, woman power! There is extra satisfaction from doing it yourself.

zingy, i love your garden creation!
All I can say is (((WOW))), Zingy!! Your brug is wonderful and your garden project and your place is perfection. I'm so happy to know that life doesn't end at 65, that there are still good working years left. I'm a mere youngster, only 62.5, lol, and I do all my garden work too, I've dug every hole on my property and continue to do so, in spite of a broken ankle, back in Feb. Well, it was Lefty and all Lefty has to do is hold me up so Righty can pump the shovel. Your tree is a real beauty and i cannot wait to see photos of your new brugs, which ones are they?? I'm in southeast Arky, and I figure what will grow in FL will also grow here. I love your photos, send more...and, Happy Friday!!
Wow, Zingy. You did a fantastic job. It looks great.
Great looking gardens. Beautiful pictures.
Thank you Thank you everyone!! Your words are pearls!!
My new brugs are:
Dreamcicle -sorta apricot- from Ebay
Purple People Eater - Michigan Bulb
Herrenhauser Garten - Crape Plants
Charles Grimaldi - Plant Safari
Ecuador Pink - Plant Safari
They are teensy little twigs. I still have to plant some of them. The Dreamcicle was damaged by either my cat or grand-dear knocking it over and breaking off the top 3/4 of the plant. I have the broken part in water and it revived... the stub looks sad. We will see!!
Zingy,
You have a beautiful yard!! Hopefully one day mine will look have as great as yours does.
You added some proven winners to your garden. EP is still my all time favorite.
Welcome to daves and the brug forum,
Jen
I've never heard of Purple People Eater before. Could it be a datura, perhaps? Looks like you are going to have some fun growing brugs. It won't be long and you are going to be just as addicted as the rest of us. There is no going back. I'm glad you got your brug some plants for company. Welcome to the brug forum.
Brugie,
Here is the link to the site where I purchased "Purple People Eater". I had something like that when I lived in Venice Florida, but it did not overwinter well, had approx. 4/5" flowers and only reached about 3' high. Although it did seem to reseed itself if I remember rightly.

Thanks. Yes, that is a datura. It's a pretty one too. I wish the blooms on them would last more than a day. I really liked the double white one I had. I just looked like a bush covered with white carnations. You will have good luck and be sure to save a pod of seeds from your plant. They don't overwinter in our area at all. I do know of someone who dug the root and overwintered it, but since they grow so easily from seed, that would be the route I'd take. Have fun.
Zingy, your new flower bed that you made is very impressive. I bet your DH not only had his socks knocked off, but I bet he was very proud of you.
Linda,
Yes, DH is very proud of my new garden. He shows it off to everyone. DH is a very reluctant gardener, but he will help me with the REALLY heavy stuff.
We are always swamped with work - we purchased this house 6 years ago knowing it needed bunches of work and we are always up to our necks in one type of construction or another. This year it was gutting the master bath -- when that is done he will tear out the south wall of the family room and replace the windows and etc. I do what I can to help -- but my construction/destruction :-) skills are not on a par with his.
Marie
Great job Zingy! You are perhaps not his equal, but you are very good and that is something to be very proud of! Keep up the good work! ~ Suzi :)
I AM impressed! Terrific beds, Marie, and your choice of growing brugs shows you to be a spectacularly above average intelligent person!! DH sounds supportive...let's keep him!
