This is the first bud to open. I snapped the first bud off trying to see how much damage the grasshoppers had done. To take this photo, I had to move the flower out and away from the pot. The lowest part of the flower petals were touching the potting soil. It opened late afternoon on the first. I'm hoping it gets some color before it falls off. It's cream colored right now.
Creamsicle - My First Brug to Flower
My back-up Creamsicle. I'm puttiing this one in the ground and keeping the other one in a pot for now. This has two flowers with a third green looking one on its way. What is causing the shriveling on the outer skirt. It's not all the way around. Just on the outside. The side that gets hit by the hot late afternoon sun. Ohhh, I may have answered my own question. Does the sun do this? You can see the same thing happening to the flower behind it.
Veronica
Veronica - it's very pretty! I have a creamsicle that I am anxiously awaiting just buds for at this point.
It's nice to meet another Veronica in Dave's Garden. :-) Your flower is very pretty and I noticed that you mentioned grasshoppers in your first post. I have had more grasshoppers in my garden this year than the past three years combined. My co-worker has also had an increase of them in her garden. Hmm...
Betty, I have my Creamsickle in full sun and my weather is not much different than yours. We have had very chilly and then hot weather and I think this affects the bloom when it is in bud form sometimes. Mine has also had the blooms turn peach which usually does not happen for me until the fall when the weather is cooler. It has been a strange spring for us.
I have heard how terrible the grasshoppers are in your area. My sister lives in Bastrop and she kills at least 100 that are on her house and around her plants. I have not had a problem with them so far.
Yuck on grasshoppers!! I can't imagine!!
Beautiful blooms!!!
Judy

annapet
Congratulations on your bloom!
I love my Creamsickle...yours too. They bloom so young and the flowers are so generous!!
betty, I cannot see the damage in the photo but I have some buds that were damaged when their pot dried out and, of course, I didn't know it. They are blooming now and I'll take a photo later on and put it here to see if it's the same as yours...Creamsickle is wonderful and how I wish I had one!!
What a great one to start with. She has always been a favorite of mine. I hope she gives you some color too, to add in the excitement.
I got some color — apricot that got darker just before she wilted and fell. Unfortunately, Creamsicle wilts and the flowers seem to suffer the most. She probably needs to go into the ground, but I have such a problem with Burmuda. Is it safe to repot a Brug while it's in bud or bloom?
Sherry - I'll reserve a cutting from my creamsicle for you this fall, if you'd like. Just remind me in September.
