This was sent to me as "Blue Giant" but I can't find any information about it. Anyone have any ideas. Alocasia or Calocasia??? The color is a beautiful blue green and the leaves do get huge-other than that I don't know anything about this plant.

barb, its an xanthosoma I know you didn't get it form me the only person I gave one to last year was janetos. there just like the x stag but there blue. I got mine from brian williams, The guy that hybrid alocasia brian williams. two years ago I think, maybe a year..? colocsasis produce bulbs or stolons, alocasias produces nut looking things... and xanthosomas come from there on roots after winter. It is normal for xanthosomas to be hardy down to 7. I have seen them in nurserys down here people pass them up thinking its the regular one....

I googled earlier today and only got two hits. One of them was Jim's Big Plants. Oddly enough, the listing has the ear's name yet a description for a ginger. :) I emailed him to see if he was aware of the error and if he would be updating. I'd love to know more about it.

I e-mailed brian about it...

I can't find out anything else about it. Looks interesting.

Foley, AL

I have never heard of that before. I have seen it on his site. but to me that is hard to believe that is a xanthosoma. but thats not really a good picture of it either. I just have a problem with it so I haven't bought it.

That's why I asked-I had the same feeling--

I thought more hilo beauty-ish than xanthosoma...There are spotted forms of xanthosomas but that would be more of a blotch that a spot... I would think. the texture of it doesn't look xanthosoma-ish either.

Barb, do your blue ones in the pic have any sort of streaks or color on the stems? I was just looking at my X. robusta which are really blue compared to my others but they have nearly navy streaks on the green stems.

Foley, AL

where did you get your x. robusta from badseed?

ely
