Hoya kerrii....finally!

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

My H. kerrii is FINALLY gearing up to bloom! It has had about 9 umbels (right term?) on it for a year now. One is beginning to push the flowers. I will take pics soon, I notice the Plant Files reference does not show any in bloom, so I will ad mine if no one else does. Wow, I'm really happy!

I get blooms every year from my all green one, but those darn variegated ones are sooooo slow to do everything. They only grow a couple of leaves a year it seems. I have yet to get a bloom on one of them. However, they are my favorite and I love looking at those leaves. They are all different, and they look almost fake.

Congrats KC! My kerrii is also blooming and dripping nectar everyplace, but at least it's on the ground!!

I will, thanks all! Sharing a long awaited success makes it so much sweeter! If mine is as "drippy" as Awanda's I may place it just outside the kitchen in the afternoons when I get home to share with the hummingbirds! Wouldn't they be happy!

I noticed about 3 weeks ago buds on my variegated kerrii ( bought last Fall). How long do I have to wait to see it bloom? I read - a year?

DD Megan is a hoya head in waiting if I ever saw one!

DD loves my plants, too. When she gets her own place one day she will inherit some plant buddies to keep her company! I can't wait to see the flowers of the variegated one....why don't you show it my blooms, maybe that will motivate it! LOL

My variegated kerrii opened yesterday. Happy!!
I bought this plant last Fall. When I saw it in the store, I remembered having read about it on this forum. It followed me home...

Today, In Wallmart, I saw variegated H. kerrii in 2 gal. pots. thick on a 24" hoop for 20.00. Heck...I would sell it for more...lovely plants!!!

I "scope out the plant shelf" wherever I go. DD just says, "Mom!" (use a winey voice) "...don't you have ENOUGH plants?" LOL Came home today with a handful of little leaves and starts from the (Walmart) succulent shelf. They were sitting on the shelf, some careless person broke them off the plants! (HONEST!!!!! THIS time at least! they were callused over and everything!) I took them to the check-out with my purchase and said, "I found these little guys laying on the shelf under the cactus. I just can't bear to let them die in the sun, may I take them home?" The checker said, "sure" and got out a little bag for them. Ha!!! SCORE!!! DD just rolled her eyes. LOL

K

Only in Hawaii could a person find a variegated Kerri on the Wal-Mart shelf. LOL!

Karen, Congrats on the beautiful Kerri. I've never seen one that large and love the trellis idea. Was it hard to train on that?

Adorable daughter, too!

Susan

Thanks Susan. No it wasn't hard to train, it seems to like the support. DD, my lovie buddy. :~) I wanted a pic of the Loropetalum, used here amazingly well in a commercial planting! The little hambone said, "Now take a pic of ME" LOL

Is Kerrii one of the hoyas that likes to be pot bound? I thought I'd read that a lot of them do. I just got one yesterday. I also got a pot the next size up, but didn't repot it yet. Should I wait?
