Very pretty Linda :-)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Very pretty, Linda. I love my Maya. it blooms so good.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

What a pretty blossom, Linda!! I cannot wait until mine blooms; however, I like the foliage so well that I will keep her even if she just sits there without flowering.

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

I seems like maya, snowbank ,and peaches and cream must be very similar. I have tried to root p/c but had no luck. Are all 3 hard to root?

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Me too!! Lovely flower...but I'm like Sherry and just love the foliage.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Now I must go over and look at Susie's pic of P & C and compare!! Very nice shot, Linda.

Flicker, I have heard P & C is very picky about growing. Very slow. So maybe she hates to root too! I have Maya and she is very easy. I never have had a problem. I haven't ever tried to root Snowbank and I can't remember if anyone else has commented on their experience before with Snowbank. And since you are not supposed to root her at least to give away, I bet no one roots her much.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Kell, funny that you say that lol...I bought one snowbank plant from a nursery in a small town up near Atlanta, and it had 4 shoots coming off of the main trunk and an albino pup. Well...I got a pump and have 3 tubes running from it. After taking cuttings, emmersed them in the water and after 3 weeks the roots were all coming from the bottom of the cutting. HUGE white healthy roots....I potted them up yesterday. I wished I had seen this before I did that now to show you. They root FAST! And I would say I've never seen roots show this fast other than Insig. Pink X Becca Lynn. The bubbler is the way to go!

Nice pics and the flower is similar to P&C.
I planted my P&C a week ago with one bloom. 2 more opened last night and it's got buds all over the top. I've found it very easy to start cuttings. I've started 5 this spring from suckers that were half the size of the one in the pic.

I bought 2 Sau Var and two Peaches and Cream in 2.5 in pots 6 weeks ago, and one Sau VAr is 3 ft, and has a half doz buds, the other is 2 ft. - their leaves are thick and have a nice varigation; the Peaches and Cream are much slower - one is in my garden where it is about a ft, the other about 8 in; similar to MAya in appearance. My Maya is growing much faster, 'tho.
My Snowbank is suffering at the moment from an overdose of Bayer Rose systemic; I should never have used it since it showed no sign of infestation to begin with, but everyone got a dose, and seems to be okay but Snowbank. It is putting out tiny new leaves, but the old ones are curling. I loved the thick, creamy varigation; Sau Var is more similar.

Kell, this is the cutting that you sent me (last year I think). It put up a shoot from the roots and I rooted it so now I have 2. I don't have P&C, and my Snowbank has never bloomed.

LindaSC--I am in SC too. DO you keep yours potted up inside all Winter?? DO you cut them almost to the ground. I do so none of mine are ready to flower yet as they are growing foliage. A couple I have had 2 years now but most are from cuttings this past Fall and I have 3 now that I started from seed--2 Tahitian Wedding Bells and one Canary Yellow I think it is. Maybe I should just bring them inside and leave the foliage alone--other than the cuttings I do to trade or give away?!!

Hi Bonnie, nice to see you here. I have a small greenhouse and the last two winters I've crammed them in there. Some are in pots so I just move them. Some are in the ground so I either dug them or took 'tall cuttings' that I rooted in the water bubbler system and had large trees to start this spring. Some of the ones in the ground came back, some did not. They have put up foliage but no signs of a bloom. Some of the ones I hope will bloom before TOO long are seedlings that were started inside last Aug-Dec.

I also put some of the potted ones in an unheated garage (with no light) and let them go dormant. They all came through just fine.

Water bubbler system???!!! Using just an aquarium pump, hose, and bubbler? Or what?

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

lol Flicker, yes a bubbler is simply a fish aquarium pump with the air hoses that make the bubbler's in your fishtank. You just place the cuttings in either a trash can, 2 litre half bottle or 5 gal. bucket....and let her bubble away! It works like a charm. The fattest, most white, healthy roots will grow over a span of 2-3 weeks time. Then you can pot her up! Or use this same system at the end of the season and cut back your brugs to overwinter outside (mulch heavily) and save a cutting from each special brug and use this method. You never have to change the water...just keep an eye on it to see if it needs more. You can freshen it up if you want. Good luck!

Flicker, exactly. The added oxygen keeps the water fresh. I found that this worked best in cool weather, not after the water gets warmer. This was just before potting up the ones rooting over winter.

Blaine, your blossoms and plant is just stunning and so very healthy, WOW!!! And, they are in the ground, right?? I think there is room for a variegated brug society, lol, I just love them!!!! My collection is a singleton, and I cannot wait to add to it...

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks Sherry and yes, it's been in the ground for about 2 weeks now.

CLARIFICATION: It was noted in a separate email that PC blooms do not tilt out and the pic above must be something else. So for those in the know... and the newbies like me... in the pic above I actually lifted the blooms out and propped them up on the leaf. Otherwise, they do hang straight down once they open. Looks like they have a weight tied to them. In fact, after the first one opened I went to look the next afternoon from work and thought it was wilted they way it was now pointing due south. Then I noticed foliage was fine, top to bottom. (Still did a soil check and watered anyway. ;) )

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Blaine! So, you had it in dirt in the GH and it put on buds there, then you moved it outside a couple of weeks ago?? I know I'm impatient, but I was so disappointed when all my buds were blown away by a storm, and I do have Rosamond blooming now, and one unknown, but I really wish I had left something in my GH, in dirt, for a backup. Oh, well, I learn something new, every time I take a step. I think I've heard that P&C likes cooler weather than we have. If that is not the case, I'd love to have one...

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

PC did so well in the basement I'd think you could plant it in part/dappled shade. Unless the humidity is not to her liking. Everything in HH was in pots.

Laurens, SC(Zone 8a)

Mine were all kept inside in my mini greenhouse all Winter and watered occasionally. They are all back--even the ones that I left outside in the ground but the largest ones so far is a mere 2' if that and the smallest is a seedling at a mere 2-3"!! None appears anywhere near blooming and with all this RAIN we have been getting I am starting to get really frustrated that ANYTHING will get big enough to bloom. My things growing from seed outside--the seedlings have been knocked over and drowned!! I have several small lakes in several places. This yard is already far too shady for me to be really happy but the flooding has me pulling my hair out!! hehehe One of the larger Brugs was being knocked over to the ground (last time it rained like this I lost 2 branches to it) so I have it covered with a large tub--if it was larger I wouldn't be able to!!)!! The only thing seemingly benefiting from this excessive rain are the multitude of ditch lilies that were existing in the yard when we moved in--they are all of a sudden blooming all over the place!!

Bonnie

(I would LOVE a cutting of Maya--I do nto have any with variegated foliage yet!)
