Gee, I have no clue but they are really doing so much damage. What a shame.

Wow, I've never seen those....hopefully someone will come along and identify them. They are putting a hurting on the leaves. Hope you find out soon dear. I'll be watching this thread to see if you recover an answer.

Looks like a weevil of some kind.

I have some leaves that resemble those. LOL Maybe I have those critters too. Most of mine has snail/slug slime on them.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

never seen them before here either

Gosh, kathy, did the malathion work or was your photo taken after you sprayed?? They're really eating them up, what a shame - I've never had plants that attracted more bugs than brugs, seems like every time I turn around, there's another, different bug having breakfast, lunch and dinner in my garden!

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I'll have to check the plant in the morn to see if the bugs are still there, there was 3 of them on the plant, one was in a nother place on the same plant, as far as Iknow that was the only one with the bugs, I've seen a few caterpillers, green ones, like cabbage loopers, their doing some damage too. I swear it's like picking hornworms off the maters, I hate that job. LOL

From the looks of your older leaf...they have just arrived and are feasting on the emerging leaves.... Are they soft bodied? If so...try Imidocloprid...I bet they disappear!

You horticulture agent at the Cooperative Extention service could tell you what they are and how to treat them.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kathy_ann...why don't you post a photo over on Garden Foes...there are some very knowledgeable people over there and maybe they could help you!

Too bad...I too have never seen a plant before that so many insects love...do you think it makes them high, like it did early users of the plant for drugs? That might answer our question of why so many love it!

I hope you find an answer...

The kind of look like immature squash bugs. I just don't know if they would do that much damage. I hope your spray got them all.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Well, I didn't get a chance to touch them , their gone now, and they were on ly on that one plant , so we'll see if they come back, they weren't squash bug babies, Iknow what they look like LOL

thanks
