Good Morning -
My name is Melissa Larriviere, and I am new to Dave's and gardens and landscaping, and living on 35 acres! I write to say that I am in need of information concerning the rebuilding of 3 flower beds.
The back of our home faces southwest and along the fenceline are 3 flower beds. Two of the beds are each one in the back corners. Each bed has a mature crepe myrtle and one bed has a large cactus that I have reduced to a very small cactus. The third bed is the largest and is placed in between the two smaller beds. This flower bed is shaped like a capital "T".
My initial plan is to keep all three beds - adding bull rock to the smaller beds. Then I would like to build a pond with a waterfall in the center of the "T". The waterfall would start at the top of the fenceline (42" high) and would flow into a pond (10ft long by 4ft wide and 2-3 ft deep). Either side of the falls is about 31/2 feet of flower bed.
I cannot at this time afford to build the pond or to have it built. What are my options with respect to creating something temporary and fun while I save for the pond? I do like rock gardens and I like simplicity.
I thank the forum in advance for its help.
Melissa
p.s. I failed to remember that this thread was for introductions. I will follow up. My apologies.

Hello Melissah. I saw you over on the farm forum but wanted to add my official welcome here. With all of the folks we have doing all the things they do I'm sure you will find answers to your questions. We even have a water gardening forum here if you haven't noticed it already. Welcome to DavesGarden Melissa!
Welcome Melissa! What is it like in Hempstead- gardening wise? I moved to New Mexico from Upstate NY over 20 years ago. Very different conditions here.
Welcome! I hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do. I wish I had 35 acres. Wow. That's a lot of land.

Welcome Melissa,
Before you know it, you'll have alot more than 3 gardens to fix up. If you don't watch out, Daves Garden is very addictive

Hello and welcome to Dave's Garden.
Judy
I thank all of you for your welcoming messages and apologize for not responding sooner. I have not yet figured out how one knows when they have messages - will try to stay on top of it.
Well, Angele, conditions here are much different than the southern part of NY where I lived. First of all, there is not a lot of grass space in NY, secondly the weather conditons are quite different. In Monaville we have two seasons, wet and dry. In NY we had four. And one of those of course is cold and snowy.
What I am finding here is that there are lots of things that can be grown becase we have so much warm and humid weather. So that is a good thing.
I look forward to learning and growing...
Again thanks for the welcome,
Melissa
