Puppy rescue

Moscow, TN(Zone 7a)

Today I found a beagle and a bird dog wrestling on the shoulder of I-30 between Dallas and Little Rock Ark. Semi trucks and cars were zooming by at 70-80 miles an hour less than ten feet away from the pups. I put them in the back of my truck and about 12 miles up the road stopped at a truck stop. These dogs looked about half starved and their necks were rubbed raw, I guess from being chained up. Ribs were poking out and they were covered in ticks. The bird dog had a tag so I called the number (I am already dog rich). The lady said the dogs were theirs but I should have left them on the freeway cause they chase rabbits across it all the time and would have come home eventually. However she could not come and get them until her husband came home so if I would just drive to exit 73 and put them out they would probably come home. I waited for 2 hours and in the meantime talked to the sheriff about what to do. Eventually I had to leave so the dogs and I headed for Tennessee. Her husband called four hours later on my cell and cussed me out. Told me I better have the dogs back in an hour or he was calling the police. Luckily the sheriff's deputy gave me his phone number and could vouch that I tried to get someone to pick them up. Now I have two hunting dogs in my kennels. I just hate it when people are irresponsible pet owners then act like they love their pets so much. I already have four dogs and the vet bills already stretch my disposible pet income to it's limit. My lab just had to go through treatment for heartworms that he got after we quit giving heartworm preventative in November for the winter. That cost 500.00 dollars. This fellow who owned the hunting dogs was actually mad I did not leave the dogs on the freeway. I do not want these dogs but what can an animal lover do? Geez! Sorry had to vent!
