I was wondering if it would be possible to create a forum for all of us who are interested in Epiphyllums, Selenicereus, Hylocereus, etc. These plants are generally called Orchid Cacti and are day-blooming and night-blooming. Right now, the discussions are mainly taking place in the Succulents and Cacti Forum, but there are some threads in the Tropicals Forum as well. We've created some very long threads recently and were wondering if it were possible to have our own forum. Here are some links:

Orchid Cactus Forum
I'd be interested in supporting an Orchid Cacti Forum. I have become fascinated with these in the last 2 years and there is very little information available without searching several forums.
That'a great idea. You are right about where exactly to find the info on them... I usually post pics of mine in the tropicals.
Might be nice to see everyones info & pics in one place.
MsC
I would be most interested!!! Lots of them I know diddly about and would like to learn more....
Carol
I couldn't resist and ordered my first 2 from Logee's Greenhouse yesterday. It would be great to have a forum to learn as much as possible.
It would be a great idea.
That's good idea to have Orchid Cacti Forum. I have Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter cactus. I will receive the first Epiphyllum cutting soon.
Epi forum? Sounds terrific!!
I think it is a great idea and if you folks who have some pictures of blooms would post them on this thread, I bet even more people would vote for it. I have 2 that are at least 3 years old but I have not gotten them to bloom yet so I would love some expert advice.
NoH2O, there are LOTS of photos on the links provided in the first post here. Check the Epi links... those are fantastic!
They are gorgeous, I know. I just thought if there were some photos visible on the posts (without needing to click on a link) they might hook people who had never seen epis before and create some more enthusiasm. Anything to get an epi forum. LOL
Great idea Clare!!
I'm all for having an Orchid Cactus forum-you have my support on this.
When things are less hectic for the DG staff (new equipment coming to this site soon....it will scream!!), I would also like to see a forum for these beauties. My vote would be YES Mr. Dave!!
A picture is worth a thousand words (all of which are also YES.....so please let us know if you will consider it when time permits.)
Let's see, how many votes is that......1000+ :-)

Thanks, All, for your support! You guys are a great bunch of people. We could include lots of similar plants in this forum too like Christmas/Thanksgiving Cactus, Easter Cactus, Selenicereus, Hylocereus, Epiphyllum species, Epiphyllum hybrids, Rhipsalis, etc. Anything which might generally be considered Orchid Cactus.
Here is one of my favorite links for pictures and for information: http://www.ecology.org/orchids/index5.html#Epis We have a lot of really knowledgable people here like Candy (Happenstance) and Ursula (RUK) who have amazing pictures as well.
Here is Saigon:
Clare, your christmas cactus is just gergeous!!

I vote yes, too.
ALSO, Dave, is there any way a short list of keywords could be added to the description of the forum? Something like a small "more info" button or "tooltip" that would expand a list giving folks a better idea what's in that forum. This might help people find what they're looking for -- or discover new things -- more quickly. I often don't know the name of what I'm looking for, but a hint will point me in the right direction to search.
I would definitely participate in an Orchid Cactus Forum! No rush, but if/when you get the time Dave, I'd say YES PLEASE! to this new forum :-)

Oh right! Final I can put some photos in this forum... lol...
That makes 14 down to and including Rusry. How many do we need?
Hi Darius! I'm not sure about that:-) Maybe Dave is too busy right now? I just read the Dahlia thread in which posters are requesting a Dahlia Forum. I did a search for "Epiphyllums" and only matched on 260 threads, including those in PlantFiles so, if that is a criteria, we might be out of luck. We just got our own plumeria forum, and I don't know how many threads existed prior to the forum, but I am guessing around 500 since I just added about 200 to PlantFiles.
Clare - remember what you said you'd like the forum to cover? Easter Cactus, Holdiay Cactus, Christmas Cactus, etc.
Try : "easter cactus" or "christmas cactus" or "holiday cactus" or the other keywords you suggested for other plants to be included....then add the numbers up and see where we are. If you don't put the quotes around these other search words you end up with ALL the threads on cactus.
Thank you, Candy. I didn't even think about that. Good point. I'm off to calculate...
Okay, here are some totals, but in all fairness, there may be some overlap:
Orchid Cacti:
Epiphyllum threads: 260
Christmas Cacti threads: 265
Easter Cacti threads: 55
Thanksgiving Cacti threads: 71
Selenicereus: 55
Hylocereus: 55
Rhipsalis: 85
Total: 846
Note: I didn't add the search for "Cereus," which had 283 threads, because I'm not sure that all Cereus would be called Orchid Cacti. There have been some changes in the past so certainly some Cereus would apply.
I'd like an epi and similiar plants forum too!
Count me in!
Karen :~D
How about just an "EPIPHYTES" forum to cover all of those listed above? This also includes some things in the other plant genera's too, but epiphytes are my favorite kinds of house plants.
It's sounnd good to called 'EPIPHYTES' forum. I hope Dave will accept it.
Rusty (aka SnowElk)
Epiphytes might be confusing? Tillandsias, Orchids - lots of plants grow epiphytic !
I like the "Orchid Cacti" better.
Ursula
I agree with RUK. I vote for Orchid Cacti (or Cactus) Forum.
Connie
How about "Epiphytic cacti"? That would cover the Epiphyllums, the Schlumbergeras, Rhipsalis, and the other mentioned above.
How about Orchid Cactus and Epis?
I thought Epi's WERE Orchid Cacti?
Me, too, although my epi's are not really epiphytes (nor are my holiday cactus).
Epiphytic cactus or cacti would work, or Terry's suggestion would work too. Epi's are Orchid Cacti, but other things are Orchid Cacti too. Quite frankly, we could call it Orchid Cactus Forum or Epi Forum or Epiphytic Cactus Forum, but all similar plant discussions would be welcome:-)
I forgot to say how grateful I am for all the support for this:-)
