Grape growing advice requested

NjMcMullen Mount Pleasant, MI(Zone 5b) May 28, 2005

Hi all,

I recently put in a few Canadice vines. Both are nearly a foot high, and they have small little clusters on them. I haven't even built a support system for them yet. I am leaning towards a four cane kniffen.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I need lots of help.. heh.

Suzi, I am drawn to the 4 or 6 cane kniffen system.. It seems to produce a ton of fruit that is easily accessible.

But I hope someone out there can help me with these 'first year' questions..

Nick, have you found the answers to your question? Look at the grape thread in the Texas Gardening Forum. I answered a question similar to yours. It's down toward the bottom of the thread.

I'll post this a few other places... but does anyone have a source for netting to keep birds off of grape vines? We have 6 vines that will need covering soon. I saw the cardinals checking on the grapes yesterday, they are starting to turn red now. Thanks for any help... Tom
