Questions about growing Valerian & Scullcap in Z5

Any details on size, sun exposure, what soil conditions they like etc. appreciated.

I have valerian in several places and it really doesn't seem to mind some shade. The soil here is clay loam, heavy on the clay and very acidic. Probably they wouldn't mind if it were more toward neutral, but they seem to take what they get.
