Hi everyone
This is my first pic entry into DG!
Hope you like it as much as i have been enjoying yours !
A.
fingers crossed
They look happy, Annie! Remember not to give them too much water until you see some real leaves coming in.
Mine look like Annie's. I was given a growth powder and was told to use it weekly. When do I start?
Ohhh thanks clare ! should I keep misting as I have been ?
Annie, misting is great and give them as much heat and sunlight as possible. Are those clay pots? Clay pots are good on one hand because they breathe well and so the soil dries out quickly so you can water more often, but on the other hand, the roots often stick to the side of the container and break off when you go to transplant. I personally prefer plastic, but they do look lovely in clay pots.
Pins, are we talking about a growth hormone? I would steer clear of any growth hormone. I've seen it do terrible things to plumerias. If you have cuttings which are rooting, I wouldn't do anything until you get some leaves, and then you can start watering regularly. If you are referring to fertilizer, I wouldn't start using fertilizer until you have some nice leaves. Once you get some leaves, you can start with a balanced fertilizer about once a month.
Hi Clare
Yup..clay pots... your scaring me! When will I have to transplant ???? I was hoping to keep them in those till they were Strong enough to withstand a gentle transplant..
Sorry, Annie, for scaring you. I can't tell how big those pots are. If they are about one-gallon size and if those are cuttings which are just starting to root, they will be fine in those containers until next spring. By then, they will have plenty of roots, and it really won't matter if some stick to the side when you go to transplant.
I can't imagine why but I just never even thought of having to transplant them. Should I do it now or let it go for this year? They've been in the same plastic pots for two years and they do have good leaves. I have to get them out in the courtyard for heat. What do you put on the surface to keep it cool? Can I use our own homemade compost? No fear of slugs on the courtyard. What's the best food for them and how often. Thanks so much - I appreciate your help.
Pirl, there is no need to put anything down to keep it cool. Plumerias like it very hot and can take all the heat that you can give them.
I would not use homemade compost in any container for any plant. There are too many gases in compost for container plants.
In order to bloom well, they need full sun and lots of fertilizer. You can start out with a Bloombooster or Bloombuilder solution made by Miracle Grow, Schlutz, or anyone. These formulas have a high middle number like 10-52-10.
It sounds like you need to repot your plumerias if they have been in the same pots for two years, but it really just depends how big your plumerias are and how big the pots are. You should start them out in one-gallon containers and pot them up to five-gallon containers when they become rootbound. After you repot, you can start fertilizing once a month.
