Hot Hot Pink

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

2 Decembers ago I bought 10 cuttings from Hawaii. I lost all 3 "Rainbows" to mush. Last summer I had leaf growth on all but no flowers.

In the interim, I gave away or traded all but 2. This spring these two have put on leaf growth, but one has produced the most lovely Hot Pink flowers. I have sniffed a plumie or two, but none of them have smelled as sweet as this one. Finally, it's been a long, long wait.

It's a beauty Molly. My pilfered pink cutting (I'll tell you the story sometime, unless I post it in a DG thread soon) has an inflorescence on it so I hope I'll have some hot pink flowers in a few weeks. Hopefully you, Hap, myself and some of the other South Florida DGers can get together soon for a nursery tour. We can include Florida Colors Nursery http://www.floridacolors.com on the tour. :-)

Naien,

Those are aquatic Sensitives: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/49894/index.html The larger almost bluish green leaf is the one that blooms yellow. I have never seen the other bloom.

Thank you all. Delecie, let us know when you have a little time this summer, Happy is retiring in a week or so and I can find some time off. Not the weekend of 6/18 tho.

Susan, good to hear from you. I gave you two? one was white and one was pink? You know me and my memory.

No, you gave me one... and it has grown beautifully! It's in a pot dug into the ground... nearly 4ft tall!!

Susan, Wonderful, 4 feet! Mine are still in their starter pots. But I'm not giving up.

Molly - I transplanted mine into a large clay pot last fall, then I bought another one and transplanted it too. They both get alot of Miracle grow. I dug them into a bed in the back yard (so I can take them up in the winter and put them in the garage) and mulched them heavily. They are in full sun up until about 2:00 in the afternoon, then they are in shade. Hope this helps...

Susan,
I believe I need to transplant mine too, into a bigger pot, that will probably help and give them some fetilizer of course.

How's your blue hibiscus doing? I bought some in a coop this spring, but not real pleased with the shades of "blue". Are you ready to share a cutting or two?

I'm getting pretty good at rooting cuttings AND growing seeds.

Glad to see you posting!
