I orderd this American Yellow Clivia from Stokes 5 years ago. When I got it, it was a seedling with 2 baby leaves and I am pleased as punch to have a bloom today!!!
yellow clivia
Pretty. I have two yellow ones, were in one pot. First year, it bloomed twice. Has not bloomed since I separated them. Please tell me your secret.
Hibiscus, everything I have ever read on Clivia as houseplants said that they should be kept pot bound to bloom. It seems to me that the opposite is true becasue each time I move them to a larger pot, my Clivia have bloomed! You might try a larger pot. With two plants you have room to experiment.
I recently repotted one of my clivias into a 12" pot. It had set for 2 years in an 8" pot and roots were growing out the top of the pot. Since repotting it has started to form buds. I believe the larger pot is one reason it is fixing to bloom.
Way to go!! Very pretty!

My orange ones bloomed, and the yellow one did last year, but not this year. Someone stepped on it last summer and almost killed it(no, it wasn't Bleu, it was a teenage boy). Yours is very pretty Mel. Is this the first time it's bloomed? I have to wait 5 years for my seedlings to flower?
Thanks for the nice compliments.
Susie, are you framing Laurens friends now? I guess Bleu deserves a break!
Yep, this is it's first bloom.
I bet you won't have to wait 5 years growing yours in Texas. Mine have been growing under lights all winter while yours get the benefit of being outdoors all the time. (With the exception of the plant killing Bleu and teenage boys)
My other yellows have not bloomed this year, but, I just repotted them so I am hopeful. The orange clivias bloom like clockwork right after Christmas.
See, I don't always frame Bleu, lol. The boy wasn't a friend, he is a weird kid who lives down the street and he used to walk across my flowerbed trying to peek in the windows. Now we have Bleu and he doesn't try that anymore! He stuck his face up to the window and there was a snarling pooch face looking back at him, it was priceless! Bleu barked and I think he wet his pants!(Bleu is very loud when he barks)
He stepped on my yellow clivia, it broke off at the crown. I thought it was a gonner. I marked where it was and this spring it put out a new shoot but didn't flower.
OOOOOH, a peeping Tom teenager!~ Creepy! I am surprised Bill did not bark at him!! I bet he would have done more than wet his pants if he had seen Bill in the window!! The kid would have been a goner!
Bill walked up behind him and told him if he valued his life, he wouldn't do that anymore. He has been caught at a couple of neighbor's windows too. He is weird, he is nuts. He has been caught walking into people's houses at night(we have an alarm). The family has about 10 foster kids and the parents are weird too. They have the biggest house in the neighborhood, they have money and they are very strange! They drive really fast on our street and three times they have swerved into yards like they were trying to hit people. The police have come and talked to them several times.
Other than that one problem family, we live in a quiet neighborhood, lol. Thank goodness they live at the far end of the street!
Mel that's a lovely one. My orange clivia is blooming now too! And I couldn't help but notice the hoya to the right.
I missed the hoya! She's been trying to get me hooked on those but I have resisted so far. I only have three kinds!
You can't resist, Calalily! I haven't....lol.
:) Donna
Calalily - If you missed the hoya it's because its on the left not the right. Where was my mind?
It is not for lack of trying that Susie has not gotten hooked on Hoyas!
Susan, that is the Hoya cv. Joy that is the big bloom mystery on the Hoya forum. I am anxious to carefully watch the bloom to see if the corollas reflux as it matures.
Mel, very pretty. My orange is blooming now. The second blooming this season.-I'm in FL. Haven't gone to one plant place yet. I am hoping to make one before I fly back Wed.
Very pretty, Mel. I guess I killed mine last winter. I haven't seen it yet. LOL
How pretty! I will have to remember the bigger pot "trick".
