Wind & Broken Brug

San Manuel, AZ(Zone 9b)

Yesterday (May 26) around 3 in the afternoon, we had one of our AZ summer winds that whipped right through my back yard and patio! It broke my huge brug in half! I've got it in water, maybe it will root.......it was so beautiful, altho it had no blooms yet! I'm just sick over it, as I've been babying this beauty for months now it seems. Oh well, at least the patio roof didn't get broken!

so sorry - for good luck send cuttings to everybody - lol - really very sorry Mitch

I lost two the same way this week, I'm trying to root mine. I'm so sorry about yours. When the wind came up here, it put my aunt's umbrella on top of her house, it's wooden, my son fixed it, then it happened again...

Sorry about your Brug. we have had lots of wind and my brugs are still small so I have most of them staked but I still hold my breath when I look outside.

madelyn - I feel your pain!! I babied 15 thru the winter, they were lush and gorgeous this spring when we had a spring gale blow thru and mine ended up naked. I could have cried. I planted them, but they still are bare twigs. sigh....

It must be the time of the year. I lost one last night, but even tho we had 60 mph gusts, mine was broken by a squirrel or raccoon. It was in a protected spot and near the bird feeders. I think a hungry critter just got careless. LOL!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

gosh Brugie I hope the squirrels leave mine alone, they are planted along the fence row, and we have way too many of those little critters

madelyn65 and everyone with wind damage,

I'm so sorry it happened!! Mine had been moved outside for only a few days when a big wind storm hit our area. They were leafless, none broken, but I was still upset. I can just imagine how I would have felt had the wind broken them.

I'm so sorry about your plants. I'm keeping my fingers crossed everytime we have strong winds and hoping they survive intact.

That is too bad Madelyn. But I bet it roots fast and gets going again. That is what is great about this time of year. Good luck and I hope you get blooms soon.

Thanks for all the good thoughts on the Broken Brug.....what's left of it is okay I think....the leaves got a bit droopy, but looks better today. I have the other half in water, we shall see what happens. Sorry to hear about all of you with wind damage. It scares me when it comes on so strong and I've seen the damage it can do here. Last year we had a micro-burst at the mobile home park and it severly damage 5 homes along with a few vehicles! I had never seen that here and I've lived here all of my life!

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

madelyn65, Last year I had lots of seedlings snapped in half when the hurricanes went through. Some are still not grown back enough to bloom yet and it sure does mess up your tree form. The brugs all made it and so I am getting some first time blooms at a time of year that I normally do not. Good luck with yours!
