V. Peach

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

After 2 yrs in the ground, I told this plant the it could not be a tree in the garden if it would not bloom. She took me at my word. I have learned my lesson and will trim it back hard in the fall. She was one of my first 2 brugs and it was going to break my heart to dig her out.

Tropical sunset is at it again too. May gray is upon us in the mornings but by afternoon, the heat will turn the bossoms orange. It mmust have been too cool in the spring for the color change.

v. peach is beautiful...before I enlarged your photo I thought it was a double!
I have her too and she was also one of my first....
I am glad she started giving you a show!

It still has this weird thing going on at the bottom. I have decided that I do not care. It is a big happy blooming plant so I just hack back the suckers and let it go its merry way. I did not want a standard there anyway.

Your blooms look wonderful Frogs!!

What a great picture. I have never seen V. Peach in person.

Are you sure your second is Tropical Sunset? It is so pretty but doesn't look like mine. The shape is wrong to me. And when it changes color does it get a darker rim on it?

I am not sure of much of anything when it comes to these plants. That was the label but what the heck. When it bloomed earlier in spring it did not get very dark. This time it gets quite a bit darker. It does not seem to be as "frilly" around the edges as yours is though. I am keeping her whatever her name and with her unsightly bottom. LOL!

My TS looks more like Kell's as well. Your's looks like it could be a versi hybrid of some sort. In either case, both your brugs look very nice. You have some nice color with your V. peach - mine has never gotten very dark until the blooms begin to fade.

You know, I seem to recollect someone else posted a picture of a TS that was not. I wonder if the same person sent them to you both.

I would keep it too esp if it makes you smile. LOL

Hmmmm. I have a monster pod's worth of seeds from this but perhaps should not spread them around. Maybe I will just start a few for some folk I know who do not care what it is as long as it is green and has flowers. These are my first seeds and no one warned me that they look like stepped on rabbit pellets. Lol.

Hey Frog.. Brug seeds look like squashed bunny doo.. There.. happy??? :D (grinning ducking and running away)

frogs, I LOVE your v. peach, it might have been our very favorite last year, it was such a surprise because the blossoms were so huge and fragrant and beautiful - I was told that the v. peach would not like it here because it gets very cold in the winter; however, I left both of my v. peaches in the ground and both came back just like the others this spring. Small still yet, but I surely hope they will bloom again. Yours is VERY beautiful, I love it, whatever you did was the right thing!!!
