I'm a sort of new member from Tucson. It's been a little over a week, that I've been a member, and still wondering my way through! It certainly is addicting. Although I am not new to Az, and have had a few little gardens here and there, this is a first for me with really trying to make something of my little front yard. I recently finished putting in 3 raised flower beds, and am desparately trying to get my flowers to grow. I'm thinking I don't have the right kind of dirt. I have two desert willow trees planted, that I had gotten from the tree program here in town. They are doing wonderful. My next project is to put in a paver walkway and a little porch area, and then get my grass growing. I know, I know..I'm in Tucson, and I'm not suppose to be growing grass, but I am originally from California and sooooooo miss the "green". I think I may have just run into some bum luck with trying to start plants in the middle of this "way too early" heat that we are having. Yuck yuck yuck!!!, but I'm not going to give up, it's way too rewarding with each little step that I get to. I actually went to HD last week, and bought myself a set of construction lights, to set up at night, so I could get my diggin' in :) (The chiropractor has been my friend lately LOL) That and Calgon :) I've really been enjoying reading as much as I can on DG, and have already gotten a darn good recipe, and will have some Datura seeds on the way soon.
This place is GREAT!!

Hello from Tucson, Az :)
I've posted this before but maybe it will give the other posters something to think about, so I'll post it here. You will notice that I included "the word". lol lol
The addiction only gets worse. Wait until you get into the Iris & Lily Forums. Oh my.... you'll want them all. I've just discovered these two myself and am very interested in growing Canna, Iris & Lily from seeds.
My passion last fall was Brugs and I fought insects for 6 months, they love Brugs. I only had one Brug last year and it was enough to hook my husband. At the time I liked the Datura we had better. The deciding factor will be the blooms I'm suppose to be getting from all the Brugs I have collected since last October. It's kind of exciting growing Brugs from seeds from a Hybriditizer because it just might be the next "rage" There are some growers that sell seeds on the Stores associated with DG listed under "Extras" which is accessed from the Home page, little tab up top. Brug.
And when you are good and addicted you can locate one of my threads over in the Parking Lot entitled "Slump Down And Tell Me All About It" cause the professional therapists won't see you, so we have to help each other.
Welcome to Dave's you'll love it here!!!
Judy

Welcome Piggypoo! I'm a neighbor from New Mexico. DH is from Phoenix. We got some refief from our early heatwave yesterday and some thundershowers too. Did you? Love those desert willows. They are blooming here right now. What color of blossoms does yours have? I've seen white , pink & purple so far. Would love one in my yard but concerned about how big the canopy spreads. Looking forward to seeing you around the garden.
Angele
No thunderstorms for us yet, Angele :( Could see those clouds brewing up in the south, and late last night, the wind kicked up, smelled a little rain...but nada. They're saying possibly today and throughout the weekend.
My desert willows have purple flowers. I've seen these trees get really big, and have a huge canopy, and I've seen them kept smaller. I suppose by pruning. They are just beautiful though. Still quite small, but lots of lovely flowers. And the hummingbirds love them!
Hoping for rain, and the flowers to grow,
PiggyPoo
Hi and welcome to the garden. Sounds like you are keeping busy. Can't wait to see pictures of your hard work.
Thanks Brugie :) I'm a tryin', but this heat, and lack of knowledge is getting the best of my flowers. I'm sure I've started at a bad time of the year, but there's hope. My raised beds are up and ready for all seasons to come, and with the help of DG and a great nursery here in town that I've bumped into, I'll be sharing pics with the rest of you!
Welcome to DavesGarden!
