I just put in and artichoke plant. I'm hoping it will do well here both for the veggies and for it's appearance. I have seen large plants in English and California gardens and really like them. I tried to grow them in Colorado but they didn't winter over for me. Would love to hear some Texas success stories.

Anybody grow artichokes?
HI Linda, I planted 5 plants this spring and 2 of them have a choke each, ready to pick, with 2 or three coming on. The other plants are not in as much sun and have not started [producing yet. I know it will be hard to keep them growing over the summer, with our heat. This is the first time I have tried them herel. I grew them in Ca. bay area and Sacto. They look healthy here, but not as tall as others I grew. Chokes are smaller too, but I am thrilled to have gotten any at all. I give them lots of water and feed lightly frequently. Had lots of prlblems with aphids in Ca. but so far none here. Had some worms on leaves, but treated with BT and took care of that. They froze back for me in Ca. but came back from the roots next year. Good luck to you, and let us know how yours do. SEEYA, Margie aka Queen of Dirtland
