An artichoke allowed to blossom. They need a lot more water than I give them to make good artichokes.
Artichoke blossom
An outstanding photograph, George! Kudos to you & your camera--and of course, the artichoke!

Lovely! The plant looks well adapted to drought -- I wonder whether the right amount of water for a succulent harvest is actually too much for the overall welfare of the plant!
Great photo.. I hope it makes fruit.
They need a lot of water to make good artichokes. The plant itself does survive drought, however.
Well, I've killed six of them so far this season. Too much water, not enough water, rabbits, you name it. I'm almost ready to give.

Mine grew best on the North side of a large elm tree. They were shaded a bit but had open sky above them. They still grow there but I do not water them enough for good 'chokes.
Why not?
It is too difficult for me to get around. Nearly all of my gardening is in pots on tables. If I could I would love to be down on my knees digging in the earth and growing things.
Ahhh, I see. Thanks for responding.
