My crista-galli is about seven feet tall (thanks Trish) and getting ready to bloom. I love this one.

Be sure to post pictures when it blooms - I want one of these again some day. I grew one from seed a few years back, thorny little tree, didn't keep it long enough for it to bloom.

Rylaff if it sets seed afterwards trade me a few...:-)

Is this the same as what they call mornig glory tree??? That is, the common name for it???

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Nope, common name is cry baby tree. Interesting red blooms. It bloomed some last year, but looks like it will be more spectacular this year.
KayJones, I got one rooting for you.

It's also called the "Fireman's Hat" or "Fireman's Cap" or something like that. Rylaff's is Erythrina crista-galli. Beautiful trees! I have a small one that's never bloomed, but a friend of mine has a big tree in his yard that blooms every year.

Janet, Morning glory tree is Ipomoea carnea. There's a pink and a white variety.

Oh, ok. I had the crybaby tree last year at the N,O, botanical gardens saleand never got it planted, and so I killed it. :(
I've been looking for another one, but they aren't easy to find in nurseries.

Is this the same as my coral bean. If so, I will have plenty of seeds. Someone told me they had success rooting stems. Will give it a try. See plant posted on dg.
