So Karyn doesn't feel so bad, here is a sad brug

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I'm ashamed to show this. It froze at Christmas, then the caterpillars ate it twice and this week has been so hot and it got too dry and the leaves turned yellow and some fell off. This is poor pitiful Whiskers.
Those are asclepias plants behind it, the monarch cats and aphids love them, so they always look ratty. I couldn't spray the cats on the brugs because I garden for butterflies and the Bt kills all caterpillars, not just the bad ones.

Poor baby

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Are you sure those aren't Bleu's teethmarks all over that poor brug?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Oh I didn't think of that! He goes down in that corner to chase lizards, I bet he bit my brug!
Did you see that sad Zebrina? I'm sending it to Peggy so it can recover.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Yeah!!!!!!!!! Susie for not using poison .

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

My neighbor beside me doesn't use poison either. We share tips on stuff, get excited when we see beneficals or butterfly caterpillars(we were moving monarch cats back and forth last summer when one persons milkweed would get bare, we'd move them to the other person's plants) or a new hummer in the area, etc.
I had to whack a Morning Glory bush way back, all of a sudden it had a purpley scale insect on it and the poor ladybugs were not eating fast enough. The ants were moving the scale all over, so I whacked the plant, moved what ladybugs I could catch and bagged those bad boys. They were still squishy soft, turned my hand purple. I've never seen scale like them.

We saw an absolutely beautiful moth yesterday, art deco design on his wings in cream and black in random swirls and was orange under his wings. He was too pretty to kill - I hope I don't regret those words later...

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I know what you mean Sherry. There was a pretty caterpillar eating my elephant ear leaf. I started to kill him, but let him live. I hope he wasn't bad.
I do pick off the army worms and cabbage loopers, they make great turtle food!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

WOW Susie
I knew whiskers had serrated leaves but ........thats a little exstream.....LOL

and I still feel bad
you have leaves

are you sure Blue didn't get that sucker?
Or perhaps someone used it for target practice with a BB gun

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Maybe Bleu had the BB gun? Did I tell ya about the time he hijacked the lawnmower and ran over that ginger Mel gave me? It's going to recover, but it is squished!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

After the stuff Vixen has done lately I believe you!LOL

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Susie, I have some leaves like those but I think snails/slugs are what ate mine but I have found some tiny little green worms on a few plants.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Those little green worms are really little green pigs, lol. They can eat a lot!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Do the worms hatch on the leaves?...or do they 'travel' there? Would those alum. can strips keep them from climbing up the stalk?

Carol

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Carol, they hatch on the leaves, sometimes you will see the eggs, they are usually yellow or orange and look like teeny round balls.
If you see pure white eggs suspended on a silken thread or little teeny white cocoons, don't disturb those, they are lacewings and they eat aphids.

Indiantown, FL

One thing I haven't seen on my brugs is caterpillers. Sure as I say that, I will have tons of them this year. The do love my bougainvilla's and my Dutchman's pipes vine though.

Knoxville, TN

There you go again framing Bleu! Now he is highjacking the lawnmower? Soon he will join Daves Garden and start posting and we will know the REAL story!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Mel, he has been sitting in here when I log on to DG, I wouldn't be surprised if he hijacked my computer and framed me!
Connie, do you get cats on your Dutchman's pipe? We get the pipevine swallowtail cats, they are wicked looking but they are harmless(except to the pipevine leaves). I always leave them because they make beautiful butterflies.
