Last Summer we lost one of our oldest cats.
As is our practice she was buried under a specimen perennial.
Others over the years are memorialized under Hostas 'Blue Angel', 'Elagans', 'Big Daddy' and an Oak-leaf Hydrangea.
For her we chose Rodgersia aesulifolia or Rogers Flower as a marker.
Unfortunately it didn't come back up this Spring.
I checked almost daily and finally gave up on it.
This is the first marker plant in 15 years not to reappear.
Then this evening my partner yelled at me to come outside.
She pointed out a new leaf which had just came up today. Yea!
So if you're growing this strange plant for the first time....believe me it is a LATE riser.

Rodgersia aesulifolia, don't give up.
I just bought this plant for the first time, and am moving the pot around to find the perfect garden placement for it. Good to know now that I can expect a long wait next spring.
As I type, my 17 year old cat is snoozing on my lap.....what a sweet way to remember your pets. I know that he can't last forever so maybe I shall think of the perfect specimen perennial for him......and my younger cat as well.
I have 2 cats, 5 dogs all "planted" underneath bleeding heart. My rodgersia is wonderful now, but it does take awhile to come up and it also takes awhile to get of any good size. Believe it or not this picture was taken in the morning! Shows how much sun I have.....

Nice shot!
It certainly IS dark there.
How old is that plant?
Is that Bletilla striata in the lower right corner?
