Thanks

Hosta i TX (9a)
I have Francee, but only put them in this spring, so don't know exactly how well they will do through the summer. So far, they are happy and have bloomed.
Thanks..I found a few that I loved then I started looking at the zone list and found it wasn't for this area and kinda went bonkers about what to put in that hole I had in my landscaping plans. *G* I need to just get a list of all the bush/shrubs etc that grow here.

I'm in 8b and have always figured [ No way ] on hostas - but have a couple of small unnamed ones that were a gift recently. Set them in a shady spot and so far so good. Of course August is yet to come!
Not that this means anything, but I bought the ones that I have at Lowe's. They are mostly in the shade, but do get sun. My understanding, as limited as it is, is that it depends on the variety as to whether it will take any amount of sun.
I agree about August. I only put these beds in this year, so I am thinking that there will be some holes in my beds by the time fall rolls around. I went for things that were supposed to be for this zone, but most of them I had to mail off for because none of the nurseries had them, so we will see if my originality pays off or not...
araness, do a google for 'hostas for warmer climates" and you should find varieties that would work. Home Depot, etc. usually carry the ones that will work in our area, so that is a good bet.
The following are varieties that I've had at least 2 years. Since, I bought more, but it remains to be seen whether they'll come back.
ginko craig
golden tiara
grand tiara
so sweet
francee
sum & substance
night after x/mas
hottsy tottsy
september sun
august moon
halcyon
frances williams
planted in full shade. and still, they get crispy around the edges in August.
Thanks...I'll check the Home Depot in Beaumont (ours is major sucky) and talk to the "expert" they have on staff. One of the main sections I want to put them is pretty shaded so I think with care and water they might just make it.

I have had 'So Sweet' for 3 years under an oak tree and they have performed very well. They do receive some filtered sun in the middle of the afternoon and full sun as the sun starts sinking in the late afternoon for awhile. They did great in an area that had morning sun and afternnoon shade. I bought them at Home Depot.
Thanks htop, I went to Lowes today in a neighboring city and saw two different types. Couldn't get anyone to answer questions as they were busy busy but I can always go back and chat another day with the experts.
Experts at home depot--you are an optimist.
LOL maybe I should have said "experts" The one at ours is about 20 and he knows a little but when I called him to ask about BER on my maters he started talking blight, fungus etc etc..
The Lowe's in Beaumont (about 30 miles away) is really much much better the selection is huge and the plants at least are alive. Which is more than I can say about the local HD.
